The defending Super Bowl champions will look to flex their muscle right out of the gate, though this time the flexing will be mostly from second and third-stringers. Nevertheless, the Rams have a winning culture, and that is something that should work to their advantage even in preseason games. Worth watching out for over the Rams in the preseason is the RB3 battle involving Kyren Williams, Jake Funk, and Raymond Calais. Rookie offensive linemen AJ Arcuri and Logan Bruss will have a role in that, as they too look to impress in run blocking and pass protection in the Rams’ o-line that helped pave the way for the team to score 27.0 points per game in 2021.
The Over is 4-0 in the Rams’ last four Saturday games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 0-0
The Chargers missed the playoffs last season but there’s little to argue about when it comes to the team’s talent. With Justin Herbert as the quarterback, the Chargers have a team to contend for at least a playoff spot, even if they are in the loaded AFC West division. Last season, the Chargers were fifth in the league with 27.9 points per game and fourth with 390.2 total yards per contest. The problem was their defense which gave up 27.0 points per outing. That should change for the better this year, with the Chargers acquiring the likes of linebacker Khalil Mack, defensive end Morgan Fox, and cornerbacks JC Jackson and Bryce Callahan. But’s it also going to be the second and third-stringers on the stop unit who likely will get heavy play in the preseason like defensive tackle Breiden Fehoko, linebacker Damon Lloyd, and cornerback Deane Leonard, who have all turned heads in training camp.
The Under is 9-1 in the Chargers’ last 10 Saturday games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rams win, 20-13.
