Betting on the Houston Texans (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
The Texans are off to a good start to the 2022 NFL preseason, as Houston took down the New Orleans Saints last Saturday, 17-13. Houston survived that game despite a messy performance from Jeff Driskel, who went 16/26 for 165 passing yards and two touchdowns with three interceptions. Meanwhile, Texans QB1 Davis Mills played for a few snaps and went 3/3 for 14 yards. But it was rookie running back Dameon Pierce who turned the most heads among Texas players offensively. Pierce rushed nine times for 49 yards, and that should help his stock as a potential no. 1 running back for Houston, which still has Marlon Mack and Rex Burkhead, Pierce has the ceiling and fresh legs, so don’t get surprised if he eventually becomes named as the Texans’ no. 1 running back in 2022. It’s also worth noting that the Texans’ defense had five sacks in Week 1.
The Texans are 3-1 against the spread in their last four preseason games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Rams (odds)
Regular Season Record: 1-0
The Rams are still tough to beat. In Week 1 of the 2022 NFL preseason, the reigning Super Bowl champions defeated the Los Angeles Chargers on the road, 29-22. Bryce Perkins showed the way for the Rams, as he went 10/17 for 133 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. He also paced the Rams with 39 rushing yards to go with a touchdown on eight carries. Perkins and rookie wide receiver Lance McCutcheon played like they were the preseason version of the Matthew Stafford-Cooper Kupp tandem, with McCutcheon catching both of Perkins’ touchdowns. There is a winning culture over the side of the Rams, and that seems to be rubbing well on the team, even in just the preseason.
The Rams are 5-1 against the spread in their last six preseason games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Rams win, 21-16.
