Betting on the New Orleans Saints (-1)

Regular Season Record: 0-0

Jameis Winston is not going to play in this game. Not that he was expected to, but he just hurt his foot and subsequently got ruled out for Friday’s showdown with the Texans. It’s probably going to be Ian Book who will start for the Saints with some help from Andy Dalton and Taysom Hill. But the most interesting player on offense – or overall – for the Saints in the preseason could be rookie wide receiver Chris Olave. Drafted in the first round, the rookie wideout has a ton of promise to be a force downfield in 2022, and it’s going to be fun to watch how he can handle Texas’ defense that got abused on an almost weekly basis in 2021.

The Under is 6-1 in the Saints’ last seven games overall.

Betting on the Houston Texans (+1)

Regular Season Record: 0-0

There’s not much to expect of the Texans in 2022. With Deshaun Watson now in Cleveland, the Texans are now without the only player who could make people believe that they are going to be at least competitive on the field. That being said, Davis Mills has shown some promise. With experience and a bit of bulking up, Mills could follow up his mildly surprising rookie season with a much better one. The offensive line of Houston also welcomes a talented young piece in left guard Kenyon Green. The defense also got star LSU cornerback Derek Stingley. Although Houston’s stop unit was generally a big disappointment in 2021, it also managed to somehow rank fifth with a 3.11 interception rate. That sounds like danger for the Saints, who were 18th last season with a 2.58 interception thrown percentage.

The Over is 4-1 in the Texans’ last five games overall.

Writer’s Prediction

The Texans win, 13-10.
