Betting on the Los Angeles Chargers (8-3)
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers was like a man possessed in last week’s 45-10 demolition job of a win over the Arizona Cardinals at home. That Los Angeles beat the Cards was not a surprise, but the manner with which Rivers led his team left many jaws on the floor. Against the Cards, Rivers set a new NFL record by completing his first 25 pass attempts. He finished the game with 259 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero turnovers on 28-of-29 completions. However, the Chargers star running back Melvin Gordon went down in that game with an MCL sprain and will be unavailable for the game against Pittsburgh. With that development, the Chargers will turn to tailback Austin Ekeler and insurance policy running back Justin Jackson for most of the team’s ground production. Ekeler is second on the team with 409 rushing yards to go with three rushing scores on 70 carries.
The Chargers are 5-1 ATS in their last six road games.
Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3-1)
The Steelers’ had their six-game win streak snapped by the Denver Broncos on the road, losing to Case Keenum and crew to the tune of a 24-17 score last weekend. The Steelers’ autopsy for that reveals that the cause of the team’s death was self-inflicted shots. Against the Broncos, the Steelers committed four turnovers, while failing to coax any from Denver. Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger had 462 passing yards and a touchdown, but threw two picks on 41-of-56 completions. In any case, the Steelers’ offense is high-powered with Roethlisberger at the helm, running back James Conner in the backfield, and the pair of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Antonio Brown roaming downfield. The Steelers are sixth in the NFL with an offense at that generates 28.7 points per game. They are also fourth with 420.8 passing yards per game. Big Ben is eyeing to extend his streak of 300-plus passing yards to four games. On defense, watch out for Pittsburgh to throw a lot of pressure at Rivers. The Steelers lead the league in sacks with 39.0. In their win over Arizona, the Chargers allowed four sacks for a loss of 23 yards.
The Steelers are 3-0 ATS in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
