Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (-10.5)
The Los Angeles Clippers knew that their magic on the road couldn’t last forever, and that certainly was the case this Past Friday when they were stunned by the Pistons in Detroit, 108-97. It was Los Angeles’ first loss away from Staples Center and just the team’s third defeat this entire season.
The Clippers are in the middle of a six-game road trip, and the match against the Pacers this Sunday will only be the third contest during that stretch. They need to get their act together on defense indeed, as they’ve given up an average of 106 points over the last nine games despite still ranking fifth overall this season at just 97.8 points allowed per game. Do note that the team was outscored by the Pistons 26-17 in the fourth quarter of Friday’s game, and this cannot be the case once more on Sunday.
Nevertheless, the Clips still have a ton of firepower in store for the Pacers ahead. They are the third-best scoring team in the NBA with 110 points per contest, with Blake Griffin having a magnificent campaign thus far. Griffin, along with sharpshooter J.J. Redick, scored 24 points apiece in the loss to Detroit.
All things considered, Los Angeles should bounce back nicely from Friday’s defeat against an ailing Pacers squad. A 7-1 road record (5-3 ATS) should be enough proof that the Clippers would get back to their winning ways at the tail-end of this weekend.
Betting on the Indiana Pacers (+10.5)
The Indiana Pacers needed a boost from the confines of their very own home floor, and they certainly got that on Friday by blowing out the Brooklyn Nets, 118-97. It was definitely a relief for the Pacers to take care of business against a disappointing Nets team, as they dropped the other two contests of their current four-game homestand against the Warriors (as expected) and the Suns (a total disappointment).
The Clippers will wrap-up said homestand this Sunday, and that can’t be good news for Indiana, especially with Paul George still nursing back and ankle injuries. George sat out Friday’s contest versus the Nets, and Indy was fortunate to get some help from his backup, Glenn Robinson III. The son of the former Milwaukee Bucks great pitched in a team-high 20 points against Brooklyn, and Robinson will need to step up once more with PG-13 questionable for Sunday’s match.
However, it’s not only George that’s been out of action, as key scorer C.J. Miles has also missed the last four games with a bruised knee as well. In turn, the Pacers must excel in creating opportunities against the Clippers like what they did on Friday by forcing 19 turnovers from the Nets. Sound play on offense is also a must and is expected of them, as they’re currently eighth in the league with a team field-goal percentage of 45.5 percent for the season.
Then again, nothing’s really given with this inconsistent Indiana team even in Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The Pacers have won just four of their last seven games at home (albeit 5-2 ATS), and an angry Clippers corps is the last thing they want in order to get back to the .500 mark on Sunday.
Writer’s Prediction
The Clippers (-10.5) recover well from their first road loss of the year by routing the Pacers, 109-91.
