Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (+3)
Regular Season Record: 42-40
The Clippers have missed Paul George and Kawhi Leonard for most of the regular season and yet they have managed to make it to the Play-in tournament phase. And they should be full of confidence heading into the showdown with Minnesota for a number of reasons. For one, they have Paul George and Norman Powell back. Also, they have won three of four meetings this season against the Timberwolves. Moreover, the Clippers won both road games against the Clippers in those matchups. The only time this season that LA lost to the Timberwolves this season was when George was out with an injury. The Clippers seem to love playing in the Twin Cities. They have won eight of 10 visits there dating back to 2019, while also covering the spread in that span a total of seven times.
The Over is 3-0 in the Clippers’ last three games as the road team.
Betting on the Minnesota Timberwolves (-3)
Regular Season Record: 46-36
Sure, Minnesota lost the regular-season series to the Clippers, but a lot of water has gone under the bridge since the last time these teams met. (That last time was the aforementioned Timberwolves win in January at home, 122-104.) The Timberwolves have been better in the second half of the season, consistently winning against elite teams like the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, and the Memphis Grizzlies among others. Anthony Edwards will look to continue playing well against Los Angeles. In four games against the Clippers, Antman averaged 23.5 points. Edwards had 28 points in the January victory versus the Clippers. But of course, it’s going to be Karl-Anthony Towns, who will get the most attention. Towns is a unique big man who can dominate from anywhere on the floor.
The Timberwolves are 3-1 against the spread in their last four playoff games at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Timberwolves win, 117-114.
