Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (24-14)
The Clippers have gotten their groove back. LA extended its winning streak to two games with a thrilling 115-106 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday. Austin Rivers scored a season-high 28 points for the Clippers who rallied from a 12-point third-quarter deficit. To further lift head coach Doc Rivers’ spirits, Chris Paul will be making his much-anticipated return to the starting lineup tonight against Sacramento. Paul has missed the last four games with a left hamstring injury. His return will help boost the Clippers who have won eight straight games in Sacramento.
The Clippers have feasted on the Kings ever since they acquired Paul prior to the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season. LA is 17-3 in its last 20 games against Sacramento with Paul in the lineup. CP3 played an integral role in LA’s 121-115 victory over Sacramento earlier this season, posting a near triple-double with 11 points, nine rebounds and 12 assists.
The Clippers are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games.
Betting on the Sacramento Kings (15-20)
Sacramento opened its seven-game home stand in disappointing fashion as it suffered a stinging 107-102 defeat to undermanned Miami on Wednesday night. The Kings had difficulty stopping Tyler Johnson who scored a game-high 23 points. With the defeat, the Kings have now lost three of their last four games.
The Kings will look to return to the win column when they lock horns with the LA Clippers tonight. For the Kings to accomplish that feat, they will need to get a much better performance from main gunner DeMarcus Cousins. He struggled mightily in the loss to the Heat, scoring a season-low 13 points on a woeful 4-of-15 shooting from the field. That’s quite a disappointment considering Cousins is averaging a team-high 28.6 points per contest for Sacramento this season.
The Kings’ D also looked out of sorts in that clash, surrendering 87 points in the first 34 minutes to a Heat team that was averaging just 98.2 points per game this season. They will need to ratchet up the defensive intensity against a Clippers side that is sixth in the NBA in scoring, averaging 108.2 points per outing.
The Kings are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Kings edge past the Clippers, 108-104.
