Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (64-29)
Clayton Kershaw makes his first trip to the mound since the All-Star break, looking to victimize the White Sox. Kershaw is clearly at the top of his game right now, having won all of his last seven starts.
A Kershaw start almost means an automatic win for the Dodgers, as they are 13-0 in the lefty’s past 13 starts. He’s also virtually unhittable of late, going 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA and 46 strikeouts. A struggling White Sox side that is hitting just .227 this month is looking like a cherry waiting to get picked by Kershaw, who’s 14-2 with a 2.18 ERA in 19 starts this season.
Of course, the Dodgers’ offense isn’t too shabby itself. Los Angeles outscored the Miami Marlins in a recent three-game series in Miami, 16-7. The team is currently second in the NL in runs scored this season and eighth in the majors in home runs.
Betting on the Chicago White Sox (38-52)
It’s been a while since Miguel Gonzales took to the mound, as he hasn’t made an appearance in over a month since landing on the disabled list with a shoulder injury. He’s fine now though and he’s about to test his body when he takes on the potent LA team at home this Tuesday.
Gonzalez isn’t having much success during the times when he’s healthy, however. He us 4-8 with a 5.15 ERA with as many total strikeouts (45) as Kershaw would make in his sleep. The White Sox have lost eight of Gonzalez’s last 10 starts, including the 10-6 loss at home versus the Baltimore Orioles back in Jun. 14.
Melky Cabrera’s bat gives Chicago some hope though. He is 5-for-14 with a homer in the last three games. Avisaíl García, meanwhile, has been better of late, going 5-for-13 with two home runs in his last three outings.
Writer’s Prediction
