LeBron James was initially thought to be making his return from injury against the Houston Rockets Wednesday night, but that changed, as he decided to sit out one more game. It’s likely because the Lakers believe the Lakers should have no problems beating the tanking Rockets without James — and Anthony Davis. The big man also sat out the 124-122 win over the Rockets because of a groin issue that doesn’t sound serious enough to hold him out for an extended period of time. Looking forward to the Pacers game, the Lakers are likely to get their superstars back. However, the Lakers were able to beat Indiana at home back in March, 105-100, without Davis, who was dealing with a leg injury at the time. Kyle Kuzma led the Lakers in that game, scoring 24 points off the bench, while James had 18 points and 10 assists. LA’s defense also held Indiana down to only 42 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent from deep.
The Lakers are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 meetings with Indiana.
Betting on the Indiana Pacers (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 33-36
The Pacers picked up a morale-boosting 103-94 home win over the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday to extend their win streak to two games. They have a chance to make it three wins in a row if they could take care of business another giant in the form of the Milwaukee Bucks this Thursday at home. Winning back to back against the Sixers and the Bucks would be huge for the Pacers, but even if Indiana takes a stumble versus Milwaukee, it should remain a threat for the Lakers, who are dealing with inconsistencies of late. The combo of Caris LeVert and Domantas Sabonis is capable of carrying the Pacers on any given game. Sabonis nearly posted a triple-double in the initial meeting with the Lakers this season, scoring 20 points to go with 14 rebounds and 8 assists. There’s also hope for the Pacers that Malcolm Brogdon could make his return from a hamstring injury against the Lakers. He had 20 points in March’s loss to LA.
The Pacers are 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games against the Lakers.
Writer’s Prediction
The Lakers win, 112-108.
