The Los Angeles Lakers were the ones supposed to be the LA team making a run for the playoffs spot and not the Los Angeles Clippers, but that’s clearly not the case. Whether they’re jealous of the Clippers or not, the Lakers can vent some of their frustrations on Doc Rivers’ squad this Friday in the two teams’ last meeting of the season. Betting on the Los Angeles Lakers (35-43)
For the Lakers’ last road games of the season, they will be taking on their fellow STAPLES Center residents this Friday. Well, this isn’t really a road game for the Lakers, technically speaking, so they should feel very much at home against the Clippers. The Lakers lost the last meeting between the two things, 113-105, on Mar. 4, but previewing Friday’s game based on that previous matchup can partially feel like an act of futility. LeBron James was still playing when that game happened, and the four-time league MVP is now sitting the rest of the season. If anything, Rajon Rondo scored 24 points in that game on 10-for-18 shooting from the field, but the point guard isn’t one to be trusted to have those kind of offensive nights on a regular basis. But one thing the Lakers need to focus on is on rebounding. They averaged 48.7 rebounds in the last three meeting with the Clippers, who grabbed 51.3 boards in those games.
In their 123-120 win over the Clippers last January, the Lakers won the rebounding battle, 56-51.
The under is 3-1 in the Lakers’ last four road games.
Betting on the Los Angeles Clippers (47-32)
The Clippers saw their two-game winning streak end on Wednesday, as they fell to the Houston Rockets at home, 135-103. The defense clearly wasn’t that tight for the Clippers, with the Rockets making 53.4 percent of their shots from the floor and going 18-for-38 from deep. Conversely, the Clippers only shot 46.9 percent. The Clippers missed Patrick Beverley, who sat out due to a right hip pointer, though, it’s probably more for rest purposes. Beverley is likely to sit out again, but if he does, he should be big boost to the Clippers’ defense that should have lesser problem this time around than in the Houston game. With James and the Lakers opting to give more playing time to the backups, the Clippers can simply take advantage of that in order to recover from the loss to the Rockets. The Clippers are averaging 114.9 points per game, fifth best in the league, and are eighth overall in points in the paint with 51.0 per contest. Williams has averaged 27.0 points against the Lakers this season, while Danilo Gallinari is putting up 21.0 in those contests.
The Clippers are 3-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last four home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Clippers win, 121-111.
