Betting on the Louisville Cardinals (-25)
The Louisville Cardinals kept their College Football Playoff dreams alive with a thrilling 32-25 win over Virginia on Saturday. Heisman frontrunner Lamar Jackson engineered a 75-yard touchdown drive in the dying seconds to help Louisville pull off the come-from-behind victory. The Cards are now on a three-game winning run as they improved their overall record to 7-1.
That being said, the road to the national championship looks quite bleak for head coach Bobby Petrino and his men. For the second time in three weeks, Louisville struggled against a heavy underdog. A few weeks back, the Cards struggled through a 24-14 victory against 35-point underdog Duke. If not for the brilliance of Jackson on Saturday, Louisville surely would have been upset by 34-point underdog Virginia. Jackson was terrific for the Cards in that ballgame, accounting for 441 total yards and four touchdowns in the win against the Cavaliers.
Jackson has now passed for 2,522 yards to go with 998 rushing yards this season. His passer efficiency rating of 159.6 is 11th in the FBS, and he’s seventh in the nation in rushing. The Cards will need more of the same from Jackson if they are to beat Boston College this coming Saturday. The Cards will fancy their chances of grabbing the victory this weekend as they have fared extremely well against the Eagles of late. Louisville has won its last three meetings with Boston College dating back to 1998. The Cards edged past the Eagles, 17-14, in their lone meeting last season.
The Cardinals are 3-1 SU and 2-2 ATS on the road this season. They are pegged at +950 to win the national championship.
Betting on the Boston College Eagles (+25)
The Boston College Eagles finally snapped their two-game losing streak with a stunning 21-14 victory over NC State on Saturday. It was a morale-boosting result for the Eagles who not only grabbed their first win in conference play in 23 months but also ended their 12-game losing skid in the ACC. Providing the impetus for the Eagles’ victory was their remarkable offense. Boston College outgained NC State, 386-338, which was quite a shock considering the Eagles possess the ACC’s worst offense this season.
For the Eagles to record another major upset and cover the huge 25-point spread against Louisville, they will need to quickly establish their ground game this coming Saturday. The Eagles held a 168-31 advantage in yards rushing in their upset win against the Wolfpack. Expected to play a crucial role this weekend for Boston College is Jon Hilliman. He rushed for 74 yards on 20 carries in the win against NC State. Hilliman will have his work cut out for him, however, against a Louisville side that is ranked 16th in the nation in rushing defense this campaign. The Cardinals are allowing just 112.1 yards per game on the ground this season.
The Eagles are 2-3 SU and ATS at home this season.
