Betting on the LSU Tigers (+9.5 Spread / 2-0 Record)
After starting the season with a huge 33-17 win over No. 8 Miami in Week 1, LSU defeated Southeastern Louisiana, 31-0, in a glorified warm-up game for this coming weekend’s showdown with Auburn. LSU leaned on its backfield to move the chains for most of the game against Southeastern Louisiana, with Nick Brossette barreling his way through the Lions’ defense for 137 yards on 19 carries. In the Miami game, Brossette had 127 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. He hasn’t averaged fewer than 5.7 yards per rushing attempt this season, so expect LSU to continue feeding him the ball. Another key for LSU in the upcoming tiff with Auburn is its pass rush. Defensive coordinator has spent the entire season working on LSU’s stop unit that manufactured four sacks against the Hurricanes.
LSU is 3-0 ATS in its last three road games.
Betting on the Auburn Tigers (-9.5 Spread / 2-0 Record)
Auburn is licking its chops at the prospect of crippling LSU’s offense with a serviceable but unremarkable quarterback under center in Joe Burrow. In LSU’s win over Southeastern Louisiana last week, Burrow only completed 10 of his 20 pass attempts for 151 yards and two touchdowns. If Auburn could slow down Brossette, it will be in a great position to defeat LSU. Auburn is allowing just 24.0 points and 102.0 rushing yards per game. Auburn is coming off a breezy 63-9 toying of the Alabama State Hornets. Auburn running backs JaTarvious Whitlow and Shaun Shivers ran circles around the Hornets’ defense, as the duo combined for 239 rushing yards and a touchdown on 27 carries. Overall, Auburn had 429 rushing yards and six rushing scores in a total display of ground supremacy.
Auburn, which is currently averaging 147.0 rushing yards per game, is 4-0 ATS in its last four home games against LSU.
Writer’s Prediction
Auburn wins, 28-21.
