With the win, Cilic booked a place in the quarterfinals of the Wimbledon Championships for the fourth year running.
The Croatian held his composure in this epic battle, hitting 38 winners and committing just 17 unforced errors. Cilic won 55 percent of his receiving points against Bautista Agut with the former US Open champion converting seven of his nine break point chances.
Waiting in the next round for Cilic is the talented Gilles Muller. This will be the third meeting between the two stars in the ATP Tour with Cilic winning each of their previous two matches. They met just last month at Queen’s with Cilic recording a close 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 victory. For Cilic to extend his dominance against Muller, he needs to continue his strong net play in the quarterfinals. He won 15 of his 18 net points against Bautista Agut on Monday.

Gilles Muller stormed into the quarterfinals of the 2017 Wimbledon Championships with a stunning 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 15-13 win over Rafael Nadal on Monday. It was a remarkable performance from the 34-year-old who needed four hours and 48 minutes to produce the marathon win. Muller definitely dialed back the years as he handed the two-time Wimbledon champion his first Grand Slam loss since the 2017 Australian Open final. It was Muller’s second Wimbledon victory against the 15-time Grand Slam winner.
Muller will look to keep the momentum going when he locks horns with Marin Cilic in the quarterfinals. For Muller to grab the upset, the Luxembourger needs to dominate with his service game. Muller’s serve was solid against Nadal as he converted 63 percent of his first serves. Muller took full advantage of that fact, winning 106 of his 133 first serve points for an incredible 80 percent clip. He also recorded 30 aces in that fourth-round encounter, stretching his tournament total to 102. Muller’s second to none in this Grand Slam event when it comes to that particular department.
