Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 53-23
Even without Ja Morant, the Grizzlies continue winning games. They just added another victory to their already impressive ledger by defeating the Golden State Warriors Monday night at home, 123-95. The Grizzlies have gone undefeated in five games, with their scoring on overdrive. Memphis has put up an average of 127.4 points per game during their current win streak while shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 44.8 percent from behind the arc. How the Grizzlies are able to sustain that offense despite missing their best player is a testament to how well the system and the chemistry of this team are. Morant will likely not play until at least the end of the regular season, but Desmond Bane, De’Anthony Melton, Dillon Brooks, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Tyus Jones are all elevating their performances to soften the impact of Morant’s absence. All five players have averaged at least 12.0 points in at least the last four games.
The Grizzlies are 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.
Betting on the San Antonio Spurs (+6.5)
Regular Season Record: 31-44
The Spurs are also scorching hot just like Memphis heading into this Wednesday meeting. They are 5-0 straight up in their last five games overall and 6-1 straight up in their last seven overall. The last time they saw action, the Spurs came away with a 123-120 win over the Houston Rockets to finish a four-game road trip undefeated. Dejounte Murray is flourishing this season and he’s peaking once again at just the right time, with the Spurs making a last push for a spot in the Play-in tournament at least. Murray scored 33 points to go with 11 assists against Houston, while Keldon Johnson had 21. Murray has put up 22.4 points in his last five appearances to go with 8.8 assists and 1.4 steals. Without Morant not around, Murray and the Spurs should have an easier time containing Memphis, despite what the Grizzlies have been showing lately.
The Under is 7-2-1 in the Spurs’ last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
The Spurs win, 114-111.
