Betting on the Miami Dolphins (-3)
Regular Season Record: 1-4
The Dolphins’ nosedive continues following their 45-17 road loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 5 to the tune of a 45-17 score. But despite the loss, Miami somehow managed to show signs of life on offense, with Jacoby Brissett tossing two touchdowns, both to Myles Gaskin. The running back was virtually the entire offense of the Dolphins in that game, as he led the team in both rushing yards (just 25 on five carries) and in receiving yards, with 74 yards and the two aforementioned touchdowns on 10 catches and 10 targets. Miami played in Week 5 without DeVante Parker because of a hamstring issue, but he could return in Week 6 and have success together with Gaskin and Brissett against the winless Jaguars. Jacksonville’s defense hasn’t done much to keep it from getting constantly abused by opposing teams, and the Dolphins will look to be the latest to capitalize on that weak stop unit.
The Dolphins are 6-4 against the spread in their last 10 games as the road games.
Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (+3)
Regular Season Record: 0-5
When is the losing going to end for the Jaguars, who, dating back to last season, has now lost 20 games in a row after they fell prey to the Tennessee Titans at home in Week 5, 37-19. That said, it seems like Trevor Lawrence’s confidence is growing. The 2021 NFL Draft overall pick went 23/33 for 273 passing yards and a touchdown and interception against the Titans. He also rushed for 28 yards and a score on seven carries. Miami presents a big opportunity for the Jags to finally break into the win column. The Dolphins are also struggling this season and will be playing on the road in Week 6. Look for James Robinson to come up with a productive performance against Miami’s defense that gave up 121 rushing yards to the Buccaneers. Robinson was the best player on the side of the Jags in Week 5, as he rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries.
The under is 6-4 in the Jags’ last 10 home games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dolphins win, 23-20.
