Betting on the Miami Dolphins (+4.0)
Regular Season Record: 8-3
After losing three in a row last October, the Dolphins have looked spectacular. They are on a five-game winning streak following a dominant 30-15 home win in Week 12 over the lowly Houston Texans. Tua Tagovailoa passed for 299 yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 22/36 completions against the Texans. Life gets so easier in the passing attack for Tagovailoa when he’s got his top weapons downfield, namely Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, who each had 85 receiving yards in the win over Houston. Hill and Waddle are No. 1 and No. 5 in the league this season so far with 1,233 and 963 receiving yards, respectively. As a team, Miami is second in the NFL with 291.9 passing yards per game and No. 1 with 8.1 yards per pass completion, thanks to the team’s insanely gifted deep threats.
The Over is 4-1 in the Dolphins’ last five games away from home.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers (-4.0)
Regular Season Record: 7-4
Like Miami, the 49ers are on a roll, having won all their last four games. In their most recent outing, the Niners blanked the New Orleans Saints at home, 13-0. The 49ers will be playing their fourth game in a row at home this week, which means they should be feeling relaxed and without any fatigue caused by travel and adjustment to an alien location. San Francisco is 7-2 against the spread in its last nine games as the home team. And while Miami does look like a dangerous opponent because of its win streak, there is an argument to be made that the Dolphins have only beaten nobodies during their ongoing run. Miami’s last four wins are against teams that are currently outside of the playoff picture.
The 49ers are 6-2 against the spread in their last eight games versus a team with a winning record.
Writer’s Prediction
The 49ers win, 24-21.
