Betting on the Miami Dolphins (+3.5)
Regular Season Record: 8-7
Miami continues to be unstoppable. The Dolphins extended their win streak to seven games by downing the hapless New Orleans Saints Monday night, 20-3. The defense got it done for the Dolphins, who relentlessly punished Saints rookie quarterback Ian Book in the pocket. Miami posted a total of eight sacks against the Saints and held New Orleans to only 164 total yards. Miami is now averaging just 21.0 points allowed per game to go with a defense that ranks fifth in the league in sack rate. That is bad news for Tennessee, which has one of the worst pass protection in the league. In fact, the Titans have surrendered the fourth-most sacks this season with 45. On offense, watch out for Jaylen Waddle. The rookie out of Alabama had 92 receiving yards and a touchdown on 10 catches against New Orleans.
The Dolphins are 5-0 against the spread in their last 5 games after giving up fewer than 150 yards passing in their previous outing.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-3.5)
Regular Season Record: 10-5
The Titans pulled off a 20-17 home win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 16. Ryan Tannehill certainly loved having wide receiver AJ Brown back. Brown torched the Niners’ defense for 145 receiving yards and a touchdown on 11 catches and 16 targets. But while Brown is back healthy, Julio Jones is once again unavailable after the future Hall of Famer wideout landed on the COVID-19 injured reserve. Still, just having Brown downfield can be a complete game-changer in favor of the Titans, who are averaging 23.8 points and 340.6 total yards per game. The Titans are also 10th in the NFL with a red-zone touchdown rate of 61.1 percent. Defensively, the Titans can take advantage of the Dolphins’ high turnover rate. Miami is 26th in the league with 1.6 giveaways per game.
The Titans are 5-2 against the spread in their last 7 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dolphins win, 23-20.
