Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (21-3)

Michigan State had little trouble eking out an 85-57 win over the Indiana Hoosiers at home on Jan. 7. Star guard/forward Miles Bridges shined in that game for the Spartans, scoring 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the floor. That is likely going to be the case again this Saturday in Bloomington with Michigan State continuing to be a great basketball ensemble. The Spartans have gone 5-0 SU and 2-2-1 ATS in the last five. They comfortably covered the 14.5-point spread in the previous meeting with the Hoosiers. Michigan State is 15th in the nation in scoring with 84.0 points per game and 16th in defense with only 64.3 points allowed per contests. They own an average scoring margin of +19.7, which is third in Division I. Bridges is one of the best talents in the nation, as he is expected to be a lottery pick in this year’s NBA Draft. Bridges is averaging 17.6 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Bridges and the Spartans’ rebounding are going to play a big role in the rematch with Indiana. MSU massively outrebounded the Hoosiers the last time, 45-27.

Betting on the Indiana Hoosiers (12-11)

Unfortunately for the Hoosiers, Victor Oladipo is not going to enter the Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall wearing Hoosiers uniform this Saturday. Indiana is now on a three-game slide following Tuesday’s 71-56 loss to No. 17 Ohio State on the road. To get back into .500 in the conference standings, the Hoosiers need Juwan Morgan to play a whole lot better than the last time he met the Spartans. Morgan had a forgettable performance in the loss to Michigan State, finishing with just two points on 1-for-5 shooting in 16 minutes. Morgan, who leads the Hoosiers in scoring with 16.3 points per game, has recovered since that poor outing, though, as he has scored at least 24 points in three of the next four games. Robert Johnson, who is second on the team with 13.4 points per game, meanwhile, needs to recover his shooting touch from the first meeting with Michigan State in which he scored 21 points. He only had two points in 35 minutes of action during the loss to the Buckeyes. The Hoosiers are 11th in the Big Ten in scoring with 72.1 points per game.

Writer’s Prediction:

Michigan State repeats over Indiana with a dominant 81-68 win.
