Betting on the Michigan State Spartans (20-9 Overall / 12-6 Conference)

The Spartans kicked off March the right way. Last Saturday, Cassius Winston and company scored a 78-66 road win over the Maryland Terrapins on the road to extend Michigan State’s current win streak to three games. The Spartans have also won two in a row against ranked teams, having defeated the No. 18 Iowa Hawkeyes in East Lansing before the Maryland game. Winston was in his usual productive self against the Terps, scoring 20 points and dishing out six assists. He committed seven turnovers, though. However, Winston was even better and more efficient in the first meeting with Penn State at home earlier this month. In that game, Winston had 25 points and nine assists with just three turnovers in 37 minutes of action. As a team, Michigan State had 15 turnovers in that game to just nine by the Nittany Lions, so keeping their errors in check will be crucial for the Spartans in the rematch.

The Spartans are 2-0 against the spread (ATS) in their last two road games.

Betting on the Penn State Nittany Lions (21-8 Overall / 11-7 Conference)

Unlike the Spartans, Penn State seems to be struggling for form just as conference play in the Big Ten is winding down. The Nittany Lions have lost three of their last four games, including their lost to Luka Garza and the Hawkeyes last Saturday on the road, 77-68. Penn State simply had no answer for Garza, who posted a double-double of 25 points and 17 rebounds. That said, Penn State forward Lamar Stevens tried to match Garza, putting up a double-double of his own, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Penn State went to the foul line just 10 times, while the Hawkeyes shot 14 of 17 from the charity stripe. They will have to be more aggressive in order to fish more fouls and force more turnovers, which they did in the win over the Spartans. In that game, the Nittany Lions went 14 of 19 from the free-throw line and scored 21 points off Michigan State’s miscues.

The under is 3-0 in the Nittany Lions’ last three games at home.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan State wins, 74-71.
