Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (22-7)
Moritz Wagner scored 18 points to lead Michigan to a close 68-67 home win over Maryland on Jan. 15, so he will be a marked by the Terrapins this Saturday. Wagner is the Wolverines’ top scorer, as he is averaging 14.5 points to go with 7.3 rebounds per outing. Michigan hit 11 threes in that game, but the Wolverines were ironically less accurate nearer the basket, as they connected on just seven of their 12 free throw attempts. Michigan is shooting an ugly 64.6 percent from the charity stripe, which it will have to avoid showing up in College Park, as Maryland knows a thing or two about limiting opponents below their season scoring averages. The same goes for the Wolverines, as they are eighth in the nation with only 63.5 points allowed per contest.
Michigan is 2-2 SU and ATS in the last four meetings with Maryland.
Betting on the Maryland Terrapins (18-11)
Maryland is coming off a 71-64 road win against the Northwestern Wildcats on Monday, which is a nice springboard for the Terps heading into their final regular season game. Maryland leading scorer had 13 points against the Wildcats, while Kevin Huerter scored a game-high 18 points. Maryland shot 51.1 percent from the field versus Northwestern. Cowan (15.8 PPG) is going to be very much leaned on again by Maryland against Michigan. He scored 24 points in the first meeting with the Wolverines with Huerter (14.6 PPG) lending 12 points of his own.
Even though they’ll be up against Michigan’s tough defense, Cowan and Huerter should more comfortable dealing with that, as they are going to play at home. Maryland scores 74.1 points per game and gives up 66.9.
Maryland is 6-2-1 ATS in its last nine games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction:
Maryland wins, 69-67.
