Betting on the Michigan Wolverines (-27.5)

The Michigan Wolverines maintained their perfect start to the season with a thrilling 14-7 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday. It was a fantastic victory by the Wolverines who beat a top-10 opponent for the first time since they defeated the ninth-ranked Badgers back in 2008. They had lost their previous 12 meetings against their top-10 rivals.

Leading the way for the Wolverines in this game was their outstanding defense. Michigan allowed a season-low 159 yards and recorded three interceptions in the win against Wisconsin. The Badgers game marked the second time this season that the Wolverines held an opponent below 100 passing yards. Jourdan Lewis made the play of the game for Michigan, nabbing an Odell Beckham-like one-handed interception in the dying minutes to thwart Wisconsin’s comeback bid.

Michigan is ranked fifth in total defense, surrendering just 247.6 yards per game this season. The Wolverines are even more menacing when it comes to third-down situations. They lead the nation in opponents’ third-down conversion rate at 15.4 percent. Michigan opponents have converted just 10 of their 65 third-down attempts this season. The Wolverines will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a woeful Rutgers offense that was shut out by Ohio State in their previous game.

Michigan is 6-4 SU and 5-5 ATS in its last 10 road games. The Wolverines are pegged at +1,200 to win the national championship this season.

Betting on the Rutgers Scarlet Knights (+27.5)

Rutgers’ losing woes show no sign of abating as the Scarlet Knights crashed to their second consecutive defeat with a humiliating 58-0 loss to Ohio State on Saturday. The Scarlet Knights had difficulty stopping Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett, who threw for 238 yards and four touchdowns. They were outgained by the Buckeyes, 669-116.

The Scarlet Knights will look to get their season back on track when they take on the red-hot Michigan Wolverines this coming Saturday. For Rutgers to record a major shock and cover the huge 27.5-point spread against Michigan, it needs to get a huge performance from Chris Laviano. He struggled mightily in the game against Ohio State, completing just 3 of 12 passes for 33 yards.

That poor performance dropped Laviano’s completion percentage to 49.6 percent this season. Laviano has passed for just 680 yards and five scores against two picks this campaign. It won’t get any easier for him against a Michigan defense that’s allowing just 12.4 points per game this season, sixth in the FBS.

Rutgers is 4-6 SU and ATS in its last 10 home games.

Writer’s Prediction

Michigan (-27.5) destroys Rutgers, 45-3.
