Betting on the Michigan Wolverines – NCAA Championship
Point Spread: +7
It took a team like Michigan to deflate the wheels of Cinderella’s pumpkin ride, as the Wolverines took down 11-seed Loyola-Chicago in the Final Four with a 69-57 win on Saturday. How did Michigan do it? Well, first, the Wolverines took away the Ramblers’ outside shot. The Ramblers hit just one of their 10 three-point attempts in the game. They also shot just 43.1 percent from the field. A team suffering an offensive power outage against Michigan is not exactly a new thing in this season. The Wolverines own one of the stoutest defenses in the nation. They have not allowed greater than 63 points in three of their four games so far in the National Tournament. Michigan’s ability to defend against the three-point shot will be put on a tremendous litmus test this Monday against a Villanova squad that is just shooting the ball from deep like no other team in all of Division I college basketball.
Betting on the Villanova Wildcats – NCAA Championship
Point Spread: -7
Saturday’s Final Four win by the Wildcats over Kansas will always be remembered when nearly all of the Wildcats played like Stephen Curry. The Wildcats went 18-for-40 from long range in their huge 95-79 win over Kansas. Eric Paschall led the Wildcats with 24 points on the strength of an almost flawless 10-for-11 shooting from the field, including four three-pointers. Omari Spellman and Jalen Brunson, meanwhile, had three triples each. The Wildcats just have so many outside gunners who could make it very difficult for Michigan to defend against. Villanova has drained a total of 66 three-pointers on a deadly 42.3 percent accuracy. That said, Villanova is not the type of team that will live and die on the three-point area. The Wildcats showed that in the Elite Eight, when they defeated Texas Tech, 71-59 despite going 4-for-24 from long distance.
Writer’s Prediction
Villanova wins the 2018 NCAA Basketball Championship, 78-70.
