Betting on the Milwaukee Brewers (28-25)
After losing their first two games of the series, the Milwaukee Brewers finally got on the win column against the New York Mets with a 7-1 victory last night. The reeling Brewers are now 3-7 in their last 10 games.
The big news for the Brew Crew was that Eric Thames finally ended his three-week homer-less drought as he launched one off of Jacob deGrom. Thames went 2-of-3 with two RBI, and is now 4-of-7 in his last two games after going hitless in his previous five games.
Travis Shaw also had a multi-hit game for the third time in his last four, and is 11-of-30 during his current seven-game hit streak.
Today’s starter, Chase Anderson can definitely use some run support from those hot Brewer bats. Anderson is coming off his best start of the season as he carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He eventually went seven innings, giving up a single hit and striking out 11.
However, Anderson had struggled mightily in his previous five starts, where he gave up 33 hits in 24.2 innings, and had an ugly 7.30 ERA.
Betting on the New York Mets (23-28)
The Mets got a bad start last night from starter Jacob deGrom, easily his worst outing of the year. The right-hander went just four innings, and gave up seven runs on eight hits. The loss snapped New York’s three-game winning streak.
The Mets bats didn’t do deGrom any favors, as they scored just one run, their lowest total since getting shut out by the Miami Marlins on May 7. But look for them to bounce back against Chase Anderson. Four players in the Mets order have a home run off the Brewers starter, and it took three of them less than five at-bats to get them.
Meanwhile, the Mets will be hoping to get a much better start from Zack Wheeler. The right-hander was forced to leave his most recent start against the Pittsburgh Pirates after the sixth inning due to a blister on his right hand. He had given up three runs on seven hits prior to getting pulled.
After a rough start to the season, Wheeler is starting to put together a string of solid performances on the mound. He’s recorded a quality start in three of his four outings in the month of May. He’s 2-0 with a 2.74 ERA in those four starts.
Writer’s Prediction
Wheeler continues to deal as the Mets (-143) beat the Brewers, 5-2.
