Betting on the Milwaukee Bucks (+4)

Regular Season Record: 51-31

Despite everything that Boston’s defense threw at him, Giannis Antetokounpo still managed to come away with a triple-double -performance in Game 1. The Greek Freak posted 24 points to go with 13 rebounds and 12 assists. Antetokounmpo is clearly the rock Milwaukee’s offense is built on, but he’s not lacking in major support either, even though the Bucks are missing the still-injured Khris Middleton. For one, Jrue Holiday and Bobby Portis have been excellent so far in the playoffs. Portis, in particular, has stepped up in a big way, and that continues to be the case. In Game 1 versus the Celtics, Portis scored 15 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, while also sinking a couple of threes. His rebounding and ability to stretch the floor have come in handy for the Bucks, who are the only team in the playoffs that is averaging over 50 rebounds per game. Milwaukee is a tough problem for the Celtics, based on Game 1.

The Bucks are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games overall.

Betting on the Boston Celtics (-4)

Regular Season Record: 51-31

Boston is fine. Being down 0-1 to the reigning NBA champions isn’t an ideal position to be in, but the Celtics have enough in their bag to get a win in Game 2. It should also work to their advantage that the next game is still at TD Garden. In Game 1, Boston’s top gunners were a bit silenced. Jayson Tatum scored 21 points but was just 6/18 from the field. Jaylen Brown only had 12 points on a salty 4/13 shooting. As a team, the Celtics shot only 33.3 percent from the field. However, they were 18/50 from behind the arc, and that 3-point shooting is something the Celtics hope would carry over into the next game. Al Horford hit 4 of those threes on just 9 attempts, showing his willingness and reliability to make Milwaukee’s defense honest. Tatum and Brown will be pressed to be more efficient offensively in Game 2 to pair up with Boston’s defense that still impressed in the series opener, holding Milwaukee to only 41.1 percent shooting.

The Celtics are 4-0 against the spread in their last 4 games on a Tuesday.

Writer’s Prediction

The Celtics win, 108-105.
