Betting on the Minnesota Timberwolves (odds)

Regular Season Record: 15-42

The Timberwolves averted a three-game losing skid last Friday by scoring a 119-111 home win over the Miami Heat. Minnesota leaned on Karl-Anthony Towns in that game, as KAT scored 24 points with a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from behind the arc. This is a lost season for Minnesota, but Towns is always going to get his numbers on almost any game simply because he’s one of the most talented big guys in the NBA right now. Towns played in just one of the two Timberwolves losses against the Clippers this season so far, but in the one he played, Minnesota looked a whole lot more respectable. He had 18 points and 10 rebounds in that 119-112 home loss to the Clippers last February. Now, he will not be defended by Serge Ibaka, who is still out, so expect the Timberwolves to keep getting the ball to Towns. The Timberwolves also have Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell to rely on offensively. The Clippers know the Timberwolves are going nowhere, so they might relax a bit — or even have either or both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George rest in this game or play in limited minutes. In that case, this will be a big plus for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves are 5-5 against the spread in their last 10 games overall.

Betting on the LA Clippers (odds)

Regular Season Record: 39-19

The Clippers had their seven-game win streak snapped on Friday in a 106-103 road loss to the Philadelphia 76ers. Kawhi Leonard didn’t play in that game, though, because of a sore right foot. He will likely miss the Timberwolves game to get himself more time to heal up. Paul George had 37 points against Philly, and if he’s not going to be rested against Minnesota, he should be able to come up with another big game. Minnesota’s defense is among the worst in the league. It’s working like a broken turnstile, allowing opponents to score 118.1 points per game on 48.3 percent shooting from the field. Both of those figures are on the bottom three in the league, as of this writing. Speaking of defense, the Clippers can take care of business on that end of the floor. They are sixth in the NBA with just 108.2 points allowed per game and 10th with just 40.3 made field goals surrendered per contest.

The Clippers are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games.

Writer’s Prediction

The Clippers win, 121-111.
