The Timberwolves are proving to be a tougher opponent for Memphis than what most expected prior to this series. After a gut-wrenching loss in Game 3, Minnesota showed some character and rebounded with a 119-118 win in Game 4 at home. That’s a nice setup for the Timberwolves heading into a crucial game in enemy territory this Tuesday. Karl-Anthony Towns had 34 point3 points on 8/17 shooting with 3 3-pointers and a 14/17 line from the charity stripe in Game 4, a performance that proved how unstoppable this unicorn can be when he’s got it. Together with Anthony Edwards and D’Angelo Russell, Towns forms a lethal offensive trio that just needs to have the attitude to keep up with Memphis. Edwards is leading the T’wolves in the playoffs with 24.8 points per game, while Towns and Russell are putting up 21.3 and 13.3 points, respectively.
The Timberwolves are 6-2-1 against the spread in their last 9 games after taking 2 days of rest.
Betting on the Memphis Grizzlies (-6.5)
Regular Season Record: 56-26
There’s no need to panic for the Grizzlies. If there’s one thing they can’t lose at this point, it’s their composure. They surely know all about that, as they recently just overcame a massive lead in Game 3 to pull off a stunning victory on the road in the Twin City. That being said, Ja Morant needs to be more consistent. He scored 11 points in Game 4. Meanwhile, Desmond Bane carried the bulk of Memphis’ offense with 34 points on the strength of an 8/12 shooting from behind the arc. At the end of the day, it’s Morant’s productiuon that will mostly determine how far Memphis will go, so his performance in this upcoming Game 5 will be crucial for the Grizzlies, who are averaging 115.8 points in the playoffs. Bane leads Memphis in the first round with 23.3 points per game while also shooting 48.7 percent from deep. As for Morant, he is making 20.5 points, albeit on just 40 percent shooting.
The Grizzlies are 11-3 against the spread in their last 14 games after a loss.
Writer’s Prediction
The Grizzlies win, 125-115.
