Betting on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (+29)
Now that was a shock. Mississippi State extended its winning streak to two games with a gritty 35-28 victory over then No. 4 Texas A&M on Saturday. It was a stunning win for the Bulldogs who entered the game as 10-point underdogs. With the victory, Mississippi State improved its overall record this season to 4-5. Things are bound to get tougher, though, for the Bulldogs as standing in their way in their next game are the Alabama Crimson Tide. They are winless in their eight previous meetings against the Tide. The Bulldogs will take comfort in the fact, however, that they have covered the spread in three of those eight games.
For the Bulldogs to record a major upset for the second week running, they will need to get another huge performance from quarterback Nick Fitzgerald. He finished with 391 total yards and four touchdowns in the win against Texas A&M. Fitzgerald spearheaded Mississippi State’s running game, which finished with a season-high 365 yards against the Aggies. The Bulldogs will need to be at their best, though, against an Alabama defensive line that’s allowing just 66.0 rushing yards per game this season, fewest in the FBS. Alabama held LSU star running back Leonard Fournette to just 35 rushing yards on Saturday.
Mississippi State is 6-4 ATS in its last 10 road games.
Betting on the Alabama Crimson Tide (-29)
The Alabama Crimson Tide will head to their SEC showdown with Mississippi State with momentum on their side after beating the LSU Tigers, 10-0, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Crimson Tide, who improved their season-record to 9-0. They have won their first nine games by an average of 26.9 points. Key to Alabama’s hot start has been their outstanding offense. The Crimson Tide are 15th in the FBS in scoring, averaging 40.1 points per game this season. Just like in their first eight victories, it was Jalen Hurts who took center stage for the Crimson Tide against the Tigers. He accounted for 221 yards and the game-winning rushing touchdown that finally broke LSU’s resistance early in the fourth quarter.
For the Crimson Tide to preserve their unbeaten record against the Bulldogs, they will need to establish their ground game this coming Saturday. Alabama ran for 216 yards in the win against LSU. The Tide are 11th in the nation in rushing offense, averaging 259.3 yards per game this season. They will be licking their chops at the prospect of facing a Mississippi State defensive line that’s allowing 150.6 yards per game on the ground this campaign, 49th in the entire FBS.
Alabama is 10-0 SU and 7-3 ATS in its last 10 home games. The Crimson Tide are pegged at EVEN to win the national championship this season.
