Betting on the Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-0)

Point Spread: +5.5

The Mississippi State Bulldogs will head to their SEC showdown with Georgia with momentum on their side after stunning the LSU Tigers, 37-7, on Saturday. It was another impressive victory for the Bulldogs, who improved their season-record to 3-0. They have won their first three games by an average of 38.3 points.

Key to Mississippi State’s hot start has been their superb offense. The Bulldogs are tops in the FBS in scoring, averaging a whopping 47.7 points per game this season. Just like in their victories against Charleston Southern and Louisiana Tech, it was Nick Fitzgerald who grabbed the headlines for the Bulldogs against LSU. He accounted for 268 yards and four touchdowns in the win against the Tigers. The junior QB has thrown for 543 yards and seven touchdowns this season while rushing for 240 yards and five scores.

Saturday’s showdown marks just the second meeting between the two schools since 2011. For Mississippi State to preserve its unbeaten record against Georgia, they will need to quickly establish their running game this coming weekend. Mississippi State rushed for 285 yards in the win against LSU.

Aeris Williams led the way for the Bulldogs in that department, finishing with 146 rushing yards. He paces the Mississippi State ground game this campaign with 336 yards on 48 carries and one touchdown. Things are bound to get, tougher, though, for Williams and co. against Georgia’s solid defensive line. No side has rushed for more than 100 yards against Georgia through three games.

Betting on the Georgia Bulldogs (3-0)

Point Spread: -5.5

The Georgia Bulldogs maintained their perfect start to the season with a resounding 42-14 victory over Samford on Saturday night. Nick Chubb starred for the Bulldogs in that victory, rushing for 131 yards and two scores. He paces the Georgia ground game with 290 yards and four touchdowns (44 carries) this season.

Kirby Smart’s men will look to keep the momentum going when they lock horns with the Mississippi State Bulldogs this coming Saturday. For Smart’s Bulldogs to preserve their unblemished slate in their SEC opener, they will need to continue their excellent play on the defensive end. Georgia is 11th in the FBS in scoring defense, surrendering just 14.3 points per game this campaign. Their ground defense has been rock solid as well, allowing an average of just 71 yards per contest. That will come in handy against a Mississippi State attack that has outscored its opponents 143-28 this season.

As for their offense, Jake Fromm’s expected to start for the third straight week for Georgia. The true freshman quarterback has completed 34 of 57 passes for 449 yards, with five touchdowns and one interception this season. Fromm’s efficiency rating is fifth among SEC quarterbacks. Game 1 starter Jacob Eason’s good to go, though, for the Bulldogs after returning to workouts on Monday.
