[sc:MLBArticles ]MLB Picks and Predictions for Wednesday, July 2, 2014
Chicago Cubs vs. Boston Red Sox (7:00 PM ET)
Line: Chicago Cubs (+135) at Boston Red Sox (-150); total: 9.0– see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]The Boston Red Sox are finding it tough to score at home, and it became even harder of late because of the Chicago Cubs’ tremendous pitching. The Red Sox have seen their games go under in seven straight home games after losing 2-1 to Chicago last night.
Buoyed by superb pitching, the Cubs go for a sweep of the Red Sox tonight. They’ll start Travis Wood (7-6, 4.52 ERA), who has given the Cubs four wins in his last five starts overall.
Writer’s Prediction: Red Sox prevent sweep, win versus Cubs.
Texas Rangers vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Texas Rangers (+135) at Baltimore Orioles (-150); total 9.0 – see all MLB lines
Miles Mikolas gets his first career start for the Texas Rangers later, and he’ll be up for a big test as he faces the power of the Baltimore Orioles, who have hit seven homers in the first two games of the series. The Rangers are 0-7 in their last seven road games, but will face O’s ace Chris Tillman (7-4, 4.18 ERA), whom Texas tagged with five runs in the first inning of their last meeting.
Writer’s Prediction: O’s rough up Mikolas for a big-margin win.
New York Mets vs. Atlanta Braves (7:10 PM ET)
Line: New York Mets (+170) at Atlanta Braves (-200); total: 7.0– see all MLB lines
The New York Mets are 0-3 in their last three games, and are on the verge of being swept by the streaking Atlanta Braves. The Mets will pin their hopes on Jacob deGrom (1-4, 3.62 ERA), who has been a symbol of inconsistency for the team. DeGrom recorded a 1.83 ERA in his first three starts before compiling a 6.75 clip in his ensuing four starts.
Unlike deGrom, Atlanta’s Julio Teheran (7-5, 2.34 ERA) has the Braves rolling. The Braves are 7-0 in their last seven games and are 3-1 in Teheran’s last four home starts.
Writer’s Prediction: Atlanta cruises to their eighth-consecutive victory.
Philadelphia Phillies vs. Miami Marlins (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Philadelphia Phillies (-120) at Miami Marlins (+110); total: 7.0– see all MLB lines
After losing 5-4 in extra innings to the Miami Marlins, the Philadelphia Phillies try to avert another latest losing skid when they start Cole Hamels tonight. The Phillies are 4-1 in Hamels’ last five starts, while the Marlins are 5-2 in their last seven games against Philadelphia.
Writer’s Prediction: Hamels and the Phillies get a win.
St. Louis Cardinals vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)
Line: St. Louis Cardinals (-133) at San Francisco Giants (+123); total: 6.5 – view all MLB lines
St. Louis Cardinals’ ace Adam Wainwright (10-4 2.01 ERA) gets the starting gig tonight, and he’ll be facing the San Francisco Giants, who blanked his team in the first game. The Cards are 4-1 in Wainwright’s last five road starts. The Giants, however, are 4-1 also in Ryan Vogelsong’s (5-4, 3.96 ERA) last five starts versus St. Louis.
Writer’s Prediction: Cards win.
