MLB Picks and Predictions for Wednesday, July 30, 2014

Milwaukee Brewers vs. Tampa Bay Rays (12:10 PM ET)

Line: Milwaukee Brewers (+170) at Tampa Bay Rays (-200); total 7.0 – see all MLB lines

The Rays are one win away from returning to .500, and ace David Price is just the starter to take them there. The lefty, who could be making his last home start in Tampa Bay, is 5-0 with a miniscule 1.36 ERA in July and the Rays have won their last six with him on the mound.

On the flipside, Milwaukee could be one loss away from finally surrendering its lead atop the NL Central. The presence of Yovani Gallardo on the mound may be a bad omen for the Brewers; they’re winless in his last six starts.

Writer’s Prediction: Price blows away the Brewers as the Rays win.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. San Francisco Giants (3:45 PM ET)

Line: Pittsburgh Pirates (+104) at San Francisco Giants (-114); total 7.5 – see all MLB lines

[sc:MLB240banner ]The Pittsburgh Pirates are one win away from their first series sweep on the road this season as they face the San Francisco Giants tonight. The Buccos, who will have Charlie Morton (5-10, 3.40 ERA) starting, should still be full of confidence as they have won their last four meetings in a row over San Francisco.

The Giants, losers of their last five home games in a row, will need another strong start from Tim Lincecum (9-7, 3.96 ERA) to stand any chance of winning. They’re 7-3 in his last 10 home starts.

Writer’s Prediction: The Pirates complete the sweep over the Giants.

Seattle Mariners vs. Cleveland Indians (7:00 PM ET)

Line: Seattle Mariners (EVEN) at Cleveland Indians (-110); total 6.5 – see all MLB lines

Felix+Hernandez+Seattle+Mariners

With their win last night, the Mariners finally won in Cleveland for the first time since 2011. They’ll now look to get a winning streak started behind ace, Felix Hernandez (11-2, 1.99 ERA), who has an amazing active streak of 13 straight starts with 7+ innings and two or less earned runs allowed.

The Indians’ Corey Kluber has been impressive in his own right. He’s 3-0 with a 1.97 ERA in July, while the total has gone under in six of his last seven starts.

Writer’s Prediction: King Felix outduels Kluber in a Mariners win.

Los Angeles Angels vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:00 PM ET)

Line: Los Angeles Angels (-125) at Baltimore Orioles (+115); total 8.5 – see all MLB lines

Manny Machado’s 12th inning walkoff blast last night sent the O’s to their fourth win in their last five games, three of which have come in extra innings. But Baltimore will have its hands full against Angels starter Garrett Richards (11-3, 2.62 ERA). Despite suffering defeat in his last two starts, the Halos have done well with Richards on the road. They’re 8-2 in his last 10 road starts.

Writer’s Prediction: Richards shuts down the Baltimore bats for an Angel win.

Atlanta Braves vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (10:10 PM ET)

Line: Atlanta Braves (+142) at Los Angeles Dodgers (-157); total 6.5 – see all MLB lines

The Dodgers are now riding a four-game winning streak after a come-from-behind victory last night against the Braves. Another comeback tonight may not be necessary as Zack Greinke (12-6, 2.74 ERA) takes the ball for LA, who are 5-1 in his last six starts. Meanwhile, Braves starter Alex Wood (4.24 ERA in July) will hope to minimize the damage the Dodger lineup can inflict. The over is 4-1 in his last five starts.

Writer’s Prediction: Greinke and the Dodgers beat up on the Braves.
