Mondays don’t suck that much when there are baseball games to watch at the end of the day. Here are five of the best baseball games to bet on today.
The week opens with some of the teams beginning another series. Among the most interesting is the interleague matchup of the Baltimore Orioles and the Washington Orioles (full-game preview here). Perhaps more intriguing is the potential preview of this season’s Fall Classic between the San Francisco Giants and the Oakland A’s.

New York Yankees vs. Cleveland Indians (7:00 PM ET)
Line: New York Yankees at Cleveland Indians – see all MLB lines
[sc:MLB240banner ]Thanks to their offense last night, the New York Yankees were able to carve out a 9-7 victory versus the Minnesota Twins to come away winners in their four game-set. The Yankees are now 3-1 in their last four games. They’ll need that kind of activity from the plate tonight to support untested starter Shane Greene against the Cleveland Indians, who have scored 27 runs over their last five games. Yankees batters may find it tough, though, as the Indians are 3-0 in Justin Masterson’s (4-5, 5.16 ERA) last three starts at home.
Writer’s Prediction: Indians win.
Baltimore Orioles vs. Washington Nationals (7:05 PM ET)
Line: Baltimore Orioles (+165) at Washington Nationals (-185); total: 7.5 – see all MLB lines
On the strength of a 6-1 record in their last seven games, the Baltimore Orioles have crept atop the American League East. Buck Showalter’s crew will now head to Washington to face Stephen Strasburg (7-6, 3.53 ERA) and the Washington Nationals to begin a four-game interleague series. The Nats are 3-1 in Strasburg’s last four home starts, including a strong outing against the Colorado Rockies on July 1, in which he struck out eight batters and allowing just one earned run in 7.2 innings of work.
Writer’s Prediction: O’s bring Strasburg down to the ground to get their seventh win in eight games.
Kansas City Royals vs. Tampa Bay Rays (7:10 PM ET)
Line: Kansas City Royals (+101) at Tampa Bay Rays (-111); total: 7.0– see all MLB lines
James Shields (8-4, 3.93 ERA) faces his former team tonight when the Kansas City Royals begin their last series on the road before the All-Star break. Shields, though, hasn’t been effective of late, compiling a 0-1 record with a 6.16 ERA in his last three starts. He may be due for a win, as the Royals have a strong 8-2 record in their last 10 meetings with Tampa Bay. The Rays, on the other hand, are in the midst of a winning streak, having won all of their last three games.
Writer’s Prediction: Rays humble Kansas City.

Pittsburgh Pirates vs. St. Louis Cardinals (8:15 PM ET)
Line: Pittsburgh Pirates (+170) at St. Louis Cardinals (-200); total: 6.5– see all MLB lines
The Pittsburgh Pirates are on a roll right now. They are 3-0 in their last three and 5-1 in their last six games, all of which were played at home. The Pirates now depart for a seven-game road trip to close the first half of the season. They are 4-1 in their last five road games. Meanwhile, the St. Louis Cardinals look to get back on track after suffering back-to-back losses to the Miami Marlins. Manager Mike Matheny will have Adam Wainwright (11-4, 1.89 ERA) on the mound to welcome the Pirates. The Cards are 5-0 in Wainwright’s last five starts when the Bucs are in town.
Writer’s Prediction: Pittsburgh will be too hot to handle even for Adam Wainwright. Bucs win.
San Francisco Giants vs. Oakland Athletics (10:05 PM ET)
Line: San Francisco Giants (+135) at Oakland Athletics (-150); total: 8.0– see all MLB lines
After a bad slump caused them to relinquish their hold of the top spot in the National League West, the San Francisco Giants can make a run to get it back just before the All-Star break, beginning with a highly-anticipated matchup against the Oakland A’s tonight. The Giants, who are 4-1 in their last five road games, will give the ball to Ryan Vogelsong (5-5, 3.86 ERA). San Francisco is 5-0 in Vogelsong’s last five starts. The A’,s on the other hand, own the majors’ best record of 55-33 and are 9-1 in their last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction: The Giants upend A’s.
