MLB Free Picks – Baseball Games of the Day – June 24, 2014

They say basketball never stops. But so does baseball. On that note, here are five of the best baseball games to bet on today.

There are a lot of interestingly bad trends heading into tonight’s set of baseball games. We can start with Mark Buehrle’s atrocious win-loss record against the New York Yankees or with the San Francisco Giants’ losing spell at home. Either way, both of these make for a highly entertaining and equally intriguing night of baseball.

Read more about all of those below, including the interleague matchup of the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Mets. For a more detailed breakdown of that series, you can look at it here.

MLB Picks and Predictions for Tuesday, June 24, 2014

Chicago White Sox vs. Baltimore Orioles (7:05 PM ET)

Line: Chicago White Sox (+127) at Baltimore Orioles (-137); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines

The Chicago White Sox’s dropped their eighth straight game after losing to the Baltimore Orioles in the first of their three-game series, 6-4. They’ll look to end their woes again tonight with Jose Quintana (3-7, 3.87 ERA) on the mound. The White Sox are are 4-1 in his last five starts. Meanwhile, the Orioles are 4-1 in their last five games overall.

Writer’s Prediction:  The White Sox mercifully end their losing streak with a win over the O’s.

New York Yankees vs. Toronto Blue Jays (7:07 PM ET)

Line: New York Yankees (+130) at Toronto Blue Jays (-140); total: 9.5 – see all MLB lines

Having lost three straight games and facing Mark Buehrle (10-4, 2.32 ERA) next could be bad news for any other team, but not for the New York Yankees. The Bronx Bombers have won all of the last 16 games when Buehrle starts against them. Buehrle, however, is currently enjoying one of the best season of his career. The Toronto Blue Jays are 7-3 in his last 10 road starts.

Writer’s Prediction:  Mark Buehrle finds rare success against the Yankees as Blue Jays win.

Oakland Athletics vs. New York Mets (7:10 PM ET)

Line: Oakland Athletics (-135) at New York Mets (+125); total: 8.5 – see all MLB lines

The Oakland A’s barge into the Queens, hoping to get a win after suffering their first loss in six games Sunday night against the Boston Red Sox, 7-6. As usual, they’ll bring their equally potent hitting and pitching – the A’s are No. 1 in the majors in runs (389) and No. 2 in ERA (3.02).

Though the New York Mets probably can’t match the A’s at the plate, they will at least have ageless wonder Bartolo Colon (7-5, 3.88 ERA) on the mound. The Mets are 6-1 in the last seven home starts of the rotund pitcher. If you’re ready to bet on this matchup, you can pause reading this piece for a moment and create a betting account now.

Writer’s Prediction:  The A’s pound Colon and the Mets.

Washington Nationals vs. Milwaukee Brewers (8:10 PM ET)

Line: Washington Nationals (+110) at Milwaukee Brewers (-120); total: 8.0 – see all MLB lines

The Washington Nationals shutout the Milwaukee Brewers, 3-0, in the first of their three-game set, which was a match reflective of the Nats’  majors-best 3.00 ERA.  With Jordan Zimmermann (5-4, 2.95 ERA) on duty later against the Milwaukee Brewers, the Nationals are looking to extend their winning streak to four games. The Brewers, on the other hand, are 5-0 in the last five game 2’s of a series.

Writer’s Prediction: The Brewers defeat Washington.

San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants (10:15 PM ET)

Line: San Diego Padres (+140) at San Francisco Giants (-155); total: 6.5 – see all MLB lines

Tim Hudson

Hoping to avert their recent struggles at home are the San Francisco Giants, who have lost all of their last four games at AT&T Park. Starting Tim Hudson (7-3, 2.39 ERA) tonight should breathe a little air of confidence for the NL West pacesetters, as the Giants are 7-0 in Hudson’s last seven home starts.

However, Hudson will be in for a stiff challenge against the San Diego Padres’ rookie Jesse Hahn (2-1, 2.16 ERA). Hahn has shown glimpses of talent in his last two starting gigs – the Padres won in both games – giving up just six hits and striking out 14 batters over a span of 13 innings.

Writer’s Prediction: The Giants break long spell at home, wins against San Diego.
