Oakland Athletics vs. New York Mets – June 24, 2014 – Betting Preview and Prediction

The Oakland A’s suffered a minor hiccup when they got tripped up by the Boston Red Sox, 7-6, on Sunday. They’ll look to shake off that loss when they travel to Queens for a two-game interleague set against the New York Mets, who are returning home after a successful road trip, capped by an 11-5 victory over the Miami Marlins.

The pitching matchup for this game is among the most intriguing tonight, as former Mets draftee Scott Kazmir goes up against Bartolo Colon, who played for Oakland last year. To know which other interesting games to bet on, you could check more about those here.

Line: Oakland Athletics (-135) at New York Mets (+125); total: 7.0 – view all MLB lines

Betting on the Oakland Athletics

The A’s saw their winning streak end at five games after losing at Fenway Park on Sunday, thus failing to complete a four-game sweep of the Boston Red Sox. Nevertheless, the A’s should be poised to return to the win column tonight, as they start the American League’s current ERA king Scott Kazmir (9-2, 2.08 ERA) against the Mets.

[sc:MLB240banner ]Kazmir, who was drafted by the Mets in 2002, has been tremendous for Oakland this season. Coming into tonight’s game, Kazmir has allowed just two earned runs in his last three starts (20 innings total).

Against the Mets, who are struggling offensively, expect Kazmir to toss another gem in his Queens’ debut. Kazmir has picked up a win in four of his last five starts. Moreover, the A’s are 7-1 in his last 8 road starts.

But even if Kazmir isn’t in his usually deadly form, the A’s batting crew should be there to provide the luxury of run support for the two-time All-Star.

The A’s, who are No. 1 in the majors in runs (389) and in on base percentage (.336), continued to hit well in the past week with Yoenis Cespedes and Stephen Vogt leading the way. Cespedes went 8-for-23 in the A’s last six games, while Vogt hit 7-for-16 during the same span.

Betting on the New York Mets

Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon (7-5, 3.88 ERA) faces his old team tonight, and he’ll have to bring his best stuff in order for the Mets pass their test against the visiting A’s. It would also help the Mets if they rediscover the kind of hitting they put up against the Marlins in their last win.

The Mets had 17 hits and scored 11 runs against the Marlins in a rare display of efficiency from the plate. The Queens-based club is averaging only 3.9 runs per game and their .235 batting average is among the worst in the National League. However, the Mets were able to overcome their lackluster hitting with the help of some strong pitching.

This was evident in the Mets’ last five games, as they only gave up seven runs, including two shutouts. Colon pitched in one of those games, wherein he dominated the St. Louis Cardinals to give the Mets a 3-2 victory. Colon is now 5-0 with a 1.66 ERA his last six starts.

The under is 4-1 in the Mets’ last five home games. In addition, they are 6-1 in Colon’s last seven starts at Citi Field.

Writer’s Prediction

The A’s offense proves to be  too much for Bartolo Colon and the Mets. Take the A’s to win, and the game to go over the total line of 7.0. Create a betting account now and choose which club do you think will be a home run to bet on.
