Betting on the Montreal Canadiens
If they are to be eliminated in this series, the Montreal Canadiens made sure that it’s not going to be in front of 21,000 Habs fans.
[sc:NHL240 ]With Max Pacioretty scoring his first goal in six games, the Canadiens unleashed their vaunted offense (3.30 GF/G in these Playoffs) on the Boston Bruins by putting the puck behind goalie Tuukka Rask four times. It was the most goals Montreal had scored since Game 4 of their opening round series sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Now that the Canadiens appeared to have found their bearing on offense, Carey Price (.922 SV% in these playoffs) will have to match that quality with another major performance in Game 7, just like what he did in Game 6, when he stopped all of Boston’s 26 shots.
Montreal will look to hand the Bruins a huge upset in Game 7 on the road, where their power play has been at its best throughout the postseason. The Canadiens, whose games went over the total in four of their last five games away from Bell Centre, are No. 1 in the Playoffs with seven power play goals on the road.
The Canadiens are 17-5 in their last 22 games against Atlantic division teams.
Betting on the Boston Bruins
The Bruins would be better off forgetting their disappointing loss in Game 6 to Montreal. Or maybe, they can use the embarrassing loss as a motivation to finish off the Canadiens in Game 7. After all, the Bruins are 6-1 in their last seven games following a loss of three or more goals.
In the winner-take-all Game 7, the assets that made the Bruins the favorites to win the Cup will have to show up to play. First on the list is their defense. The Bruins surrendered just 2.1 goals per game in the regular season, and are doing even better in these Playoffs with an average of 2.09 GA/G. With the Canadiens’ offense waking up in Game 6, Rask and the Bruins’ blue line will all need to bring their A-games.
On offense, the Bruins are poised to bounce back from a frustrating zero-goal output in Game 6. Playing at home sure helps Boston, as the Bruins have scored 20 goals at TD Garden in these Playoffs, tied for No. 2 in the NHL. Moreover, they have outscored Montreal in three games at home in the series, 12-8.
Writer’s Prediction
The Boston Bruins will show in Game 7 why they are the favorite to win the Cup. The Bruins’ offense will wake up, propelling the team to win by at least two goals.
