[sc:NCAAFArticles ]Top 10 Kickers of the 2015-16 College Football Season
10. Austin MacGinnis, Kentucky
[sc:NCAA240banner ]Should the Wildcats fail to produce a touchdown on their drives, they should still be able to put up precious points on the board with First Team All-SEC placekicker Austin MacGinnis. An incoming sophomore, MacGinnis was a pleasant surprise last season, converting 21 of 27 field goal attempts, including three from beyond 50 yards.
9. Matthew McCrane, Kansas State
Matthew McCrane led the nation in field goal percentage as a rookie last season, converting 18 of 19 attempts. If the incoming sophomore continues to impress, then he should be up for plenty more attempts this year for Kansas State. The Wildcats ranked fourth in the nation with 1.8 field goals made per game last season.
8. Cameron Van Winkle, Washington
Washington often stumbled in the red zone last season, ranking 94th in the country from that area as they scored a touchdown in just 53.3 percent of their trips. Thankfully, they have Cameron Van Winkle to help bail them out. An honorable mention All-Pac-12 selection, Van Winkle made 20 of 24 field goal attempts last season.
7. Jake Elliott, Memphis
The reigning American Special Teams Player of the Year, Jake Elliott racked up 120 points as a place kicker last year. He was solid within 50 yards, nailing 18 of 23 attempts. Elliott struggled from over 50 yards, but still made 2 of 6 attempts. What makes him impressive is his perfect 57-of-57 on point after attempts.
6. Jaden Oberkrom, TCU
TCU doesn’t only have a Heisman contender in quarterback Trevone Boykin. The Horned Frogs also have a very solid placekicker in Jaden Oberkrom. A First Team All-Big 12 selection in 2014, Oberkrom led all placekickers in the nation with 142 points.
5. Ross Martin, Duke
Ross Martin is due for a big senior year as Duke’s go-to placekicker. An All-ACC Third Team selection in 2014, Martin made 19 of 21 field goal attempts last season, including going 5 of 6 from the 40-49-yard range. He has been a staple in the Blue Devils offense, making 52 of 63 field goal attempts through his first three seasons.
4. Andy Phillips, Utah
Andy Phillips could be up for a big 2015 season with the Utah Utes. Named into the First Team All-Pac-12 last season, Phillips has the range to put some precious points on the board. He impressively made 12 of 15 field goals from beyond 40 yards last season. Phillips’ range gives some breathing room for a Utah offense that ranked 81st in the FBS with just 45 red zone trips last season.
3. Brad Craddock, Maryland
Maryland senior placekicker Brad Craddock is in the running for back-to-back Lou Groza Awards. He won the award last season after making 18 of 19 field goal attempts, while going a perfect 44 for 44 on extra point attempts.
The Terrapins were decent when it came to red zone conversions last year, which should keep Craddock’s field goal attempts low. He should still be able to nail plenty of PATs for Maryland, though.
2. Josh Lambert, West Virginia
Another candidate for the Lou Groza award is West Virginia placekicker Josh Lambert. He made 30 of 39 field goals last season while setting the single-season NCAA record for most field goals made beyond 40 yards (he made 12 field goals from that range last season). He also showed a strong leg, going 4 of 5 from over 50 yards. Expect Lambert to put points on the board, especially if the Mountaineers’ offense repeatedly stalls this season.
1. Roberto Aguyao, Florida State
Roberto Aguyao could just be one of the greatest placekickers in the history of college football. He’s been outstanding in his first two seasons at Florida State, making 48 of 52 field goals. Aguyao’s accuracy and range should be even more in play this season without Jameis Winston behind center for the Seminoles.
