Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (+26)
Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
Last season, the Cornhuskers struggled on the field, finishing 2019 with just a 5-7 overall record and 3-2 in conference play. This season, Nebraska is hoping for its offense to elevate after averaging 28.0 points and 415.8 total yards per game in 2019. Directing Nebraska’s offense on the field will be third-year quarterback Adrian Martinez, who finished last season with 1,956 passing yards and 10 touchdowns against nine interceptions. A dual-threat quarterback, Martinez also rushed for 626 yards and seven touchdowns on 144 carries. Martinez has a reason to expect better things on the offense this year, as the Cornhuskers’ offensive line has been revamped and fortified with talents. With his mobility, Martinez, together with some new outstanding talent in the receiving corps, can cause problems for Ohio State’s defense.
The Cornhuskers covered the spread (+17.5) on their last trip to Columbus back in 2018.
Nebraska is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games away from home.
Betting on the Ohio State Buckeyes (-26)
Record: 0-0 Overall / 0-0 Conference
The Buckeyes went undefeated in conference play last season and finished 2019 with just a loss, and that’s against CFP finalist Clemson Tigers in the Fiesta Bowl. The Buckeyes are running it back again with Justin Fields, who’s arguably the best quarterback this year, depending on who between him and Trevor Lawrence you like more. Fields finished the 2019 season with 3,273 yards and 41 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Last year, he had 212 passing yards and three touchdowns without an interception on 15-of-21 completions in a 48-7 road win against Nebraska. The Buckeyes’ running game took a hit with the departure of JK Dobbins for the NFL and the injury to Master Teague III, but as long as they have Fields running the show, the offense should be fine, especially against Nebraska. With wide receiver Chris Olave back, the Buckeyes will at least have one dominant force downfield. Olave led the team with touchdowns in 2019 to go with 849 receiving yards.
Ohio State is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games as the home team.
Writer’s Prediction
Ohio State wins, 40-19.
