Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (+22)
Record: 0-1 Overall / 2-1 Conference
After dropping their first game of the season, a 30-22 road loss to the Illinois Fighting Illini (30-22), the Cornhuskers have reeled in two wins in a row. They defeated the Fordham Rams at home, 52-7 on Sep. 4 before taking down the Buffalo Bulls on Sep. 12, 28-23. It’s the first time in two years that Nebraska has won back-to-back games, and that’s something the team can feel good about heading into a huge matchup against Oklahoma. Nebraska went run-heavy against Buffalo, as the Cornhuskers had 220 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 41 carries. Still, Nebraska needs Adrian Martinez to be more active after he went just 13/19 against Buffalo but had 242 passing yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Nebraska’s pass rush has to wake up as well after recording zero sacks in the Buffalo game.
Nebraska is 6-4 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Betting on the Oklahoma Sooners (-22)
Record: 0-0 Overall / 2-0 Conference
Oklahoma did not show the Western Carolina Catamounts mercy in last Saturday’s 76-0 home win. It was as simple as that. Spencer Rattler brought the big guns into the game, as he finished with 243 passing yards and five touchdowns on 20/26 completions. It was supposed to be that easy for Oklahoma against an obviously overmatched opponent. That said, the offense can still explode against Nebraska, which, outside of an interception, did not really look good against the pass versus the Bulls. In two games, Rattler has collected a total of 547 passing yards and six touchdowns against a pair of interceptions. He is completing 76.9 percent of his passes, and that could even get better against this soft Cornhuskers stop unit. There’s still room for improvement for the Sooners’ defense but Nebraska just doesn’t have the kind of attack that can fully capitalize on some cracks on Oklahoma’s stop unit.
Oklahoma is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.
Writer’s Prediction
Oklahoma wins, 39-14.
