Betting on the Nebraska Cornhuskers (+9)
Nebraska’s off to its best start in 15 seasons. The team is still unbeaten (7-0), currently sits atop of the Big Ten West with a 4-0 conference record and inside the top-10 of the AP poll. Yet, the Cornhuskers head into Camp Randall Stadium as the underdogs.
A reason for that is probably because the Huskers haven’t really dominated their opponents this season. They’ve eked out wins and survived against teams that somewhat managed to push them out of their comfort zones. To name a few, Northwestern, Illinois, Indiana and Purdue were all able to provide a scare to Mike Riley’s crew.
Well, nevertheless, the credit still goes to Nebraska for finding ways to win at the end. That’s mainly thanks to the gradual progression of Tommy Armstrong. The senior signal-caller has been efficiently leading an offense that’s racking up 6.1 yards per play, the third-highest in the conference. He’s passed for 1,611 yards, 11 touchdowns and five picks while running for another 380 yards with six TDs thus far this season.
Jordan Westerkamp, meanwhile, is set to return and ready to re-sharpen his rapport with Armstrong. The senior wide receiver led the team with 65 catches for 918 yards and seven scores a season ago, so there’s no doubt he’s going to be one of many potential troubles for the Wisconsin defense.
The Cornhuskers are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games overall.
Betting on the Wisconsin Badgers (-9)
Winning the Big Ten West is still a possibility for the Badgers, who’ll be facing its fifth top-10 opponents this season. They’ve gone 2-2 in matchups like this and that slate, including their confidence, could vastly improve with a win over the visiting No. 7 Huskers.
Defense has been Wisconsin’s most lethal weapon this season, as opponents are only managing to average 14.3 points and 300.6 total yards against them. Plus, you can expect the Badgers to play with a lot of confidence versus Nebraska, a team which they’ve beaten in their previous three meetings.
Offensively though, the Badgers remain shaky with two quarterbacks—Bart Houston and Alex Hornibrook. Both have had their share of good and bad moments throughout the year, but they’ve received enormous help from Corey Clement, who’s rushed for 617 yards along with six TDs this season, to keep the offense steady and productive enough.
Wisconsin is 7-3 SU and 6-4 ATS in its past 10 home games overall.
