The Patriots got a taste of their own medicine that they served the Los Angeles Rams back in Super Bowl 53. The Pats scored just a field goal and in their 24-3 road loss to the Rams in Week 14, so the pressure is on Cam Newton and company to be better on offense going forward. Newton passed for only 119 yards with zero touchdowns and an interception on 9-of-16 completions in the Rams game, but seeing the Dolphins this weekend could reinvigorate the former league MVP. Back in Week 1, Newton rushed for two touchdowns in a 21-11 home win over the Dolphins. Sony Michel also rushed for 37 yards and a touchdown in that game. New England’s defense also clobbered Miani’s then-starting quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick, as the Pats picked him off three times. With a rookie under center for Miami this time around against New England, the Pats’ secondary must be licking their chops again. The Patriots are third in the league with 15 interceptions.
The under is 3-0 in the Patriots’ last three games on the road.
Betting on the Miami Dolphins (-2.5)
Regular Season Record: 8-5
Forget everything you know about the Dolphins based on their Week 1 loss to the Pats. This current Miami team is far and away much more improved than the one Cam Newton and company beat up in the opener. Since then, the Dolphins have rapidly developed into a dangerous unit that even had the gall to make the Kansas City Chiefs sweat bullets last week. Miami lost to the reigning Super Bowl champions by just six points, 33-27, at home in Week 14. The Dolphins’ defense forced Patrick Mahomes to have his worst game of the season, as the Chiefs’ QB got picked off three times and sacked thrice for a loss of 39 yards. The Dolphins are arguably the best defensive team in the NFL right now, and that is definitely not good news for the Patriots, who are struggling with pass protection and turnovers.
The Dolphins, who are allowing just 18.8 points per game, are 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 contests at home.
Writer’s Prediction
The Dolphins win, 23-17.
