Betting on the New England Patriots (2-2)
Patriots defense (currently worst defensive team in the league) has cause for concern going into Week 5 where they are looking to get over the hurdle of a 2-2 record. Sunday’s 33-30 loss (at home) to the Panthers allowed averages of 32.0 points and 456.8 yards, with Carolina scoring four touchdowns and a field goal over seven possessions in the final three quarters.
New England’s pass defense has been ridiculously penetrable, giving up a total of 1,311 yards and 11 touchdowns, while opposing QBs have amassed an imposing 116.5 passer rating. Tom Brady has been holding his own and giving his squad plenty of chances at a 4-0 record given his 116.6 rating, but they’ve been letting the 40 year old down in what may be the twilight of this tenure.
Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-1)
The Buccaneers are looking good at home. They currently hold a six-game home winning streak (after just missing the playoffs last year) and this season they have extended their record to 2-1 after fighting off the New York Giants in a 25-23 victory in Week 4 with a time-expired 34-yard field goal.
Jameis Winston is looking sharp, throwing for 332 yards and three touchdowns in his second straight home game where he can thank the impressive play of running back Jacquizz Rodgers, who has rushed for 150 yards on 35 carries in the two home wins. The Buccaneers will also welcome back running back Doug Martin who is returning after a three game suspension.
Writer’s Prediction
While all signs point to another Buccaneers victory, the Pats are going to snap out of their defensive funk to support a strong performing Brady and pick up their third win of the season, while covering.
