Betting on the New Orleans Saints (+3)
Regular Season Record: 3-5
The Saints got tripped up by the Atlanta Falcons in a 27-25 home loss in Week 9. The good news for New Orleans is that the team is still on top of the NFC South standings. But the Saints will have to be more decisive going forward to keep their heads above water. Trevor Siemian started against the Falcons, but he was inconsistent. The Saints have an option to start Taysom Hill, but will he be enough? What’s more certain for the Saints is Alvin Kamara’s status as the team’s unquestioned no. 1 running back on the team. Kamara rushed for 50 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries against Atlanta and also led the team with 54 receiving yards on four receptions. That’s been a consistent story for the Saints, so the challenge for New Orleans is to find more weapons that can take opposing defenses’ attention away from Kamara. Defensively, the Saints can surprise Tennessee. New Orleans entered Week 9 fourth in the NFL with 1.9 takeaways per game.
The over is 4-1 in the Saints’ last five contests.
Betting on the Tennessee Titans (-3)
Regular Season Record: 4-3
The Titans have simply been unbelievable of late. They extended their win streak to five games, even without Derrick Henry in a 28-16 win over fellow Super Bowl contenders Los Angeles Rams on the road last Sunday. Henry is likely done of the rest of the regular season at least after suffering a foot injury in the win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8, but the Titans still looked like world-beaters in the Rams game. Ageless legend Adrian Peterson stepped into the role of Henry as the team’s top running back and immediately led Tennessee running backs in carries, while also finding the end zone once. But the real attention on the side of the Titans should be paid to Tennessee’s defense, which forced the Rams to commit two turnovers and go only 4/15 on third downs. With Jameis Winston gone and Michael Thomas out, the Saints seem as like they simply do not have enough to keep up with Tennessee.
The Titans are 3-0 against the spread in their last three home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Titans win, 23-21.
