The Dark Knight is fine. A little health issue that turned out to be nothing more than a treatable blood clot in Matt Harvey’s bladder made Mets fans a bit uneasy, but now that he’s given a go signal to start on Opening Day, New York is expecting nothing less of great stuff from their ace this Sunday.Harvey is the standard-bearer of a Mets rotation that is arguably the best in the majors today. Harvey went 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA and 1.02 WHIP across 29 starts last season. He also made four postseason starts in 2015, going 2-0 with a respectable 3.04 ERA. That includes two starting duties against Kansas City in the World Series, wherein he gave up five earned runs. Harvey is 5-5 with a 3.42 ERA in 12 road starts last year.
On offense, the Mets are counting on the bats of Yoenis Cespedes, Curtis Granderson, and David Wright to deliver the goods on Day 1 of the regular season. The hard-hitting Cespedes arrived in New York after a midseason trade last year and almost singlehandedly transformed a once anemic Mets offense into a force to reckon with. He had 17 homers and slashes of .287/.337/ .604 in 57 games for New York in 2015. He was just 3-for-17 in the World Series matchup with Kansas City, though.
Granderson, meanwhile, did great last season as the leadoff hitter, going .259/.364/.457 at the plate.
The over is 3-0 in New York’s last three road games.

Betting on the Kansas City Royals (0-0)
Johnny Cueto left for San Francisco so it’s now Edinson Volquez, who’ll be the featured starter of Kansas City. The Royals will parade the Dominican this Sunday as they begin their defense of their World Series title they won at the expense of the Mets.
Volquez, who had a 13-9 record and a 3.55 ERA last season, started in Game 1 and Game 5 of last fall’s World Series against the Mets. He allowed four earned runs on eight hits, while striking out eight in 12 total innings on the mound during that series. He didn’t earn a win in those couple of starts with Kansas City’s vaunted bullpen finishing the job. Volquez was 8-4 with a 3.48 ERA in 16 home starts in 2015.
Speaking of the Royals’ relievers, the unit is minus Greg Holland, who is now a free agent. That said, the addition of Joakim Soria should soften the blow of Holland’s loss. Soria had 24 saves and a 2.53 ERA for Pittsburgh last season.
The Royals are also hoping to continue being productive on offense despite their lack of power. The Royals are masters in putting the balls in play and they put that ability on full display against the Mets in the World Series. Last season, Kansas City was second to the last in the American League last season with only 139 home runs, but was second in the majors in batting average with runners in scoring position.
Kansas City is 7-0 in its last 10 home games.
Writer’s Prediction
The Mets win, 4-2.
