Thanks to part-time Norse God and full-time major league pitcher Noah Syndergaard, the New York Mets defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, 4-3. Bartolo Colon now looks to follow up Syndergaard’s act with a strong performance of his own when he faces Clayton Kershaw and company in the series finale, which we will preview below. Bartolo Colon is entertainment personified. The rotund hurler continues to do well on the mound at age 42, as he keeps a 3-1 record and a 2.82 ERA and 1.12 WHIP on the season. Colon has been particularly effective this month, wherein he’s gone 2-0 with a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings across two starts.

In the latest installment of the Colon show, the 18-year veteran tossed for 6.2 frames, yielding three runs on six hits while striking out five batters in a 6-3 win over San Diego on May 7. He even jacked his first career home run to make the night even more memorable. Colon has pitched only three times at Dodger Stadium before, going 2-1 with a 5.30 ERA in 18.2 innings.

The Mets’ offense is also supplying Colon with ample run support. In fact, Colon is getting 4.38 RS/9 this year.

Generating runs may not come as easy tonight for the Mets, however, considering they’ll be up against Clayton Kershaw. That’s why Colon and the Mets’ bullpen have some serious work to do in order to keep New York within striking distance of the Dodgers should Kershaw pitch like Kershaw. The Mets’ relievers are third in the majors with a 2.37 ERA.

The Mets are 7-3 in Colon’s last 10 road starts.

Betting on the Los Angeles Dodgers (17-17)

Clayton Kershaw’s last start was brought to you by the letter K—again. Kershaw’s huge appetite for strikeouts continued in a 6-2 win over Toronto on May 7, when he allowed just two runs while recording 10 strikeouts in seven innings of mound duty.

For those keeping count, that’s the fourth-straight time that the lefty has fanned at least 10 batters. Kershaw had 14 in the previous start, a 1-0 win over San Diego on May 1. On the season, Kershaw has a 4-1 slate to go with a 2.04 ERA and 0.77 WHIP.

Expectations of Kershaw mowing down the Mets’ lineup later tonight are bloated further by the fact that he’s 6-0 with a 1.34 ERA in nine career starts versus New York. The current Mets’ roster has a collective .138 batting average versus Kershaw.

The offense, meanwhile, will be bannered by Corey Seager and Adrian Gonzalez. Seager has hit 8-for-22 (.364) in his last six games. Gonzalez, on the other hand, is 4-for-seven in his last two contests. Gonzalez has also been successful in his previous encounters with Colon. The first baseman is a career .458 hitter (11-for-24) with two homers opposite the Mets starter.

Los Angeles is 7-3 in Kershaw’s last 10 home starts

Writer’s Prediction
