Betting on the New York Mets (3-3)
Jacob deGrom will get another crack at getting his first win of the season, as he takes on the Phillies in Game 1 of a three-game set. The Mets beat Miami 5-2 on Sunday to avoid getting swept by the Marlins.
deGrom factored into a no-decision in his first start of the season, as the offense was just not there for the Mets in a 3-1 loss to Atlanta on Apr. 5. DeGrom pitched for six innings and allowed no runs on two hits while striking out six to the Marlins, who scored two runs off the Mets’ bullpen. Based on his numbers from last year against the Phillies, deGrom could be in for another solid night later.
In two starts versus the Phillies in 2016, deGrom gathered a 2-0 record and a 0.60 ERA and held Philadelphia’s batting average down to only .122.
Michael Conforto, who hit a homer in the win over Miami, will be looking to get his power game on again Phillies righty Jerad Eickhoff. Conforto is 5-for-14 in his career against Eickhoff with two doubles and a homer. Asdrubal Cabrera also has a good line against Eickhoff. He is 4-for-9 in the matchup.
Betting on the Philadelphia Phillies (3-3)
Philadelphia’s got some early season swag it would like to sustain. After pounding Washington on Saturday in a 17-3 win, the Phillies notched their second win in a row by downing the Nationals again on Sunday, 4-3.
A chance to extend their win streak to three games comes tonight for the Phillies, who’ll have Jerad Eickhoff starting on the mound. Eickhoff made his season debut by picking up a loss in a 2-0 setback at the hands of Cincinnati on Apr. 5. Eickhoff allowed two earned runs on five hits across 6.2 frames versus the Reds. The run support that was nowhere to be seen in that game could show up later tonight with the Phillies doing better at the plate of late.
Speaking of doing better, Howie Kendrick is on an upswing, as the 33-yearold outfielder is 9-for-21 with five RBI’s in his last five games. Odubel Herrera, meanwhile, is 8-for-22 in his last six games.
