Betting on the New York Yankees (29-18)

Moneyline: EVEN

There’s just no stopping Aaron Judge right now. The 25-year-old right fielder crushed his first career grand slam on Sunday to lead the Yankees to a thrilling 9-5 victory over the Oakland Athletics. He connected with two outs in the bottom of the third inning for his 16th home run, tying LA Angels star Mike Trout for the major league lead.

For manager Joe Girardi, the Yankees’ six-game homestand was a huge success with the Bronx Bombers compiling a 4-2 record. New York’s starters were terrific during this stretch as they posted a 1.77 ERA on the homestand. Jordan Montgomery (2-3, 4.30 ERA) will look to keep the momentum going when he gets the start this coming Monday against Baltimore. He was solid in his last start against the Kansas City Royals, allowing just one run in 6.2 innings of action at Yankee Stadium. Montgomery has had his struggles on the road, though, this season. In his three road starts, the lefty is 1-2 with a 4.58 ERA and a 1.302 WHIP.

The Yankees are 6-4 in their last 10 road games. They are pegged at +1,200 to win the 2017 World Series.

Betting on the Baltimore Orioles (25-23)

Moneyline: -110

Things are going from bad to worse for the Baltimore Orioles as they crashed to their seventh consecutive defeat with a gut-wrenching 8-4 loss to the Houston Astros on Sunday. He allowed six runs on six hits in just two innings of work in his first start since replacing struggling right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez in the Baltimore rotation. Jimenez, who had a 7.17 ERA in nine games entering Sunday’s contest, surrendered five hits and two runs in six innings after Asher’s early exit.

With the Orioles in a bit of a funk right now, the pressure is on Dylan Bundy (5-3, 2.92 ERA) to deliver a great start for Baltimore this coming Monday. The right-hander will be making his 11th start of the season and first against the New York Yankees. He absorbed a tough loss in his most recent outing against the Minnesota Twins, despite allowing just two runs in seven innings. Bundy struck out seven in that 2-0 defeat.

Bundy can’t do it all alone, though, and he needs the Baltimore hitters to step up their play in the upcoming series against the Yanks. The Orioles have been outscored 38-17 during their seven-game losing skid. One guy who needs to contribute for the Orioles is Manny Machado. He’s batting just .227 (0 HR, 1 RBI) in his last six games for Baltimore. Mike Trumbo has disappeared as well during this losing rut, posting a similar .227 batting average (5-of-22) over the last six games with no homers and no RBIs.

The Orioles are 6-4 in their last 10 home games. They are pegged at +2,500 to win the 2017 World Series.

Writer’s Prediction

The Orioles (-110) finally snap their seven-game losing streak with a narrow 5-3 win.
