Betting on the New York Yankees (12-7)
Rookie Aaron Judge capped off his 25th birthday with an early two-run homer to help the red-hot Yankees secure a 3-1 win in their first visit to Fenway Park this season on Wednesday night—their 11th victory in 14 games.
Add to that a much-needed RBI single for Greg Bird, who entered Wednesday’s game on a three-game hitless streak. He carries a nice career .280/.357/.520 slash line against Boston.
The Yankees average around five scored runs per game this year, and they’ll try to continue providing the offense with Masahiro Tanaka (2-1, 6.00 ERA) climbing the mound in this series finale.
Tanaka got the win in his previous two starts, including a 7-inning gem in the most recent one. He also carries a 5-2 slate and 4.05 ERA across 10 career starts versus the Red Sox.
Betting on the Boston Red Sox (11-9)
Boston is sending Chris Sale (1-1, 0.91 ERA) on the mound, who brings in an impressive track record against the Yankees. He is 4-1 with a 1.17 ERA in 10 career games (seven starts) in this matchup.
The lefty has also fanned no less than 10 batters in three of his four starts this season, while throwing for at least seven innings in all. Sale, however, hasn’t received enough run support from his teammates at the plate—something that the Red Sox hope to change here.
Wednesday’s loss to the Yankees marked Boston’s fourth loss in six games. The Red Sox were shutout twice during that stretch.
Writer’s Prediction
Yankees (+155) win again, 4-2.
