Betting on the New York Yankees (-132)

New York’s losing woes show no sign of abating as the Yankees suffered a 6-3 defeat to the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. It was another disappointing setback for the Bronx Bombers who are now in the midst of a four-game losing streak. With the loss, the Yankees dropped to 31-34 in the AL East standings.

The Yankees will look to end their losing rut when they face the Twins in the opening game of their four-game set tonight. Pitching for the Yankees in the series opener is left-hander CC Sabathia (4-4, 2.28 ERA). The 35-year-old veteran was terrific in his last start against the Detroit Tigers, throwing seven shutout innings in a commanding 4-0 victory on Friday. Sabathia has now pitched 12 innings of shutout ball over his last two starts. He has been superb for the Yankees of late,  allowing just two earned runs or less in each of his last six starts.

That being said, the Yankees will also need to pull their weight on the offensive end if they are to beat the Twins in the series opener. The Bronx Bombers will rely on Chase Headley to carry them through tonight. He is 5-of-16 in his last four games with two RBIs. The third baseman is 2-of-5 in his career against Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson with a homer and three RBIs. The Yankees also need Brett Gardner to rack up some hits tonight. He is 3-of-6 lifetime against Gibson with a pair of walks.

The Yankees are 8-2 in their last 10 road games against the Twins. They are pegged at +1,400 to win the American League pennant.

Betting on the Minnesota Twins (+122)

Starting for Minnesota in this American League matchup is right-hander Kyle Gibson (0-4, 6,49 ERA). He struggled mightily upon his return from the DL on Saturday, allowing five earned runs on seven hits and a walk over 5.2 innings in a humiliating 15-4 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Gibson, who missed 42 games because of a right shoulder strain, will look for a much better showing tonight against the Yankees. He is 1-3 with a 10.72 ERA in five career starts against the Bronx Bombers.

With Gibson struggling with his command right now, the onus is on the Minnesota hitters to provide some crucial run support tonight. Expected to lead the Twins offense in the series opener against the Yankees is catcher Kurt Suzuki. He is 9-of-36 in his career against Sabathia with four homers, 10 RBIs and five walks. Suzuki has hit safely in all but one start thus far this month.

The Twins are 4-6 in their last 10 home games. They are priced at +50,000 to win the World Series this year.
