Game 1: May 11, 7:05PM EST

Starters: Trevor Cahill (1-1, 2.25 ERA) vs. Sonny Gray (2-2, 6.00 ERA)

Pitching:

Cahill looked sharp on the mound in his last outing, striking out 12 in six innings of action during a 2-0 win at home over the Baltimore Orioles on May 5.  While Cahill did not pick up a win because the A’s offense came in very late in the game, it was still a nice showing that gave him a momentum ahead of a clash with the Yankees’ bats. Sonny Gray, meanwhile, will face his former team as he looks to get back-t-back wins for the first time this season. Gray allowed two earned runs on four hits and struck out seven in six innings of a 5-2 home win over the Cleveland Indians on May 5. Gray is 25-20 with a 3.5 0ERA in 60 career starts in O.co Coliseum. Cahill’s teams are 8-0 in his last eight home starts.

Hitting:

  • Giancarlo Stanton is 4-for-12 with a double in his career vs. Cahill.
  • Jonathan Lucroy is batting .333/.396/.417 in Oakland this season.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win. 5-2.

Game 2: May 12, 1:05PM EST

Starters: Andrew Triggs (3-1, 4.41 ERA)  vs. Domingo German (2.66 ERA)

Pitching:

Andrew Triggs gets his eighth start of the season following a solid effort on May 6 when he went seven innings long and allowed just a run on two hits while recording nine K’s in a 2-1 win at home over the Orioles. As for Domingo German, he will look to build on his excellent outing during a 7-4 win at home over the Indians (his first start of the year) on May 6 in which he pitched six scoreless and hitless innings with nine strikeouts.

Hitting:

  • The current Yankees roster has a collective career batting average of .364 against Triggs.

Writer’s Prediction:

A’s win, 4-3.

Game 3: May 13, 1:05PM EST

Starters: Brett Anderson (0-1, 8.68 ERA) vs. Luis Severino (5-1, 2.21 ERA)

Pitching:

Brett Anderson has yet to win in his career against the Yankees. He is 0-5 with a 6.81 ERA in seven starts thus far in his nine-year stay in the majors against the Bronx Bombers. Anderson was rocked in a 16- 2 loss to the Houston Astros on May 7, allowing nine runs on 10 hits in just 3.0 innings. Luis Severino, on the other hand, has been sensational of late. He has given up just two earned runs in 11 hits while striking out 21 batters in 15 total innings in his last two starts, including in a 3-2 home win over the Boston Red Sox on May 8.

Hitting:

  • The current Yankees roster has a collective career batting average of .300 against Anderson.
  • The current A’s roster has a collective career batting average of .227 against Severino.

Writer’s Prediction:

Yankees win, 6-3.

Writer’s Overall Series Prediction

The Yankees get the best of the A’s, taking this regular season series in May by a total of 2-1.
