Sabathia had a strange outing in his last start. Despite allowing three earned runs on 10 hits, he was still able to collect 1o strikeouts in 7.2 innings of a 3-1 home loss to Tampa Bay. He will look to avenge that loss this Friday this time at Tropicana Field. He is 2-1 with a 2.21 ERA in three starts this month. Meanwhile, the Rays will have their unusual “bullpen day”, putting reliever Ryne Stanek on the mound to start the game this Friday. Stanek has tossed 3.2 scoreless innings filling in that “starter” role twice. He has a 0.89 WHIP in 20.1 innings pitched this season.

Pitching:
Gray will look to pick up his second win in a row this Saturday. In his last start, he gave up two earned runs on six hits with seven punch outs in 5.0 innings of a 4-2 win in Washington. The Yankees are 4-0 in the last four road starts of Gray, who is 3-2 with a 2.93 ERA in seven starts away from home this year. As for the Rays, they will have Font facing the Yankees again. In his last start, Font pitched for 4.2 innings and allowed only one run on four hits with five strikeouts in a 3-1 win at Yankee Stadium. Font is on a pitch count so expect him to log in around four innings again this Saturday.

German is getting his groove back of late. The last time he was on the mound, he allowed just an earned run on two hits with nine strikeouts in seven innings of a 7-2 home win over Seattle. Prior to that, he logged in six frames and surrendered three earned runs on five hits with 10 punch outs in a 4-3 win at home over the Rays. The Yankees are 3-0 in hist last three starts. Snell, meanwhile, handled himself well against the big bats of Houston on Tuesday, giving up just an earned run on three hits with six Ks, albeit with seven walks, in a 2-1 win at Minute Maid Mark.

- Gary Sanchez is 4-for-11 with three home runs vs. Snell.
