Game 1: Friday, June 6, 7:07PM EST

Starters: Sonny Gray (5-6, 5.44 ERA) vs. Sam Gaviglio (2-2, 3.97 ERA)

Pitching:

Gray was pummeled by the Red Sox in his last start, as he allowed six earned runs on seven hits in only 2.1 innings of an 11-0 abomination of a home loss to Boston on Jun. 30.  He’s better on the road though, as he is 3-3 with a 3.28 ERA in eight road starts this year. As for Gaviglio, he factored into a no decision in a 4-3 win on Jun. 30, allowing three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work at home against Detroit. The Blue Jays are 3-0 in his last three starts.

Hitting:

  • Josh Donaldson is 5-for-15 vs. Gray.
  • Toronto’s hitters with prior experience in facing Gaviglio are only 3-for-24 vs. the 28-year-old righty.

Writer’s Prediction:

Toronto wins, 4-3.

Game 2 Saturday, June 7, 4:07PM EST

Starters: Luis Severino (13-2, 1.98 ERA) vs. J.A. Happ (10-4, 4.03 ERA)

Pitching:

Severino continues to impress on the mound. In his last start, he humbled the Red Sox in an 11-1 win at home on Jul. 1, allowing zero runs and just two hits with 10 Ks in 6.2 innings of action. In Severino, Toronto is going to face a near-unhittable pitcher who has gone 3-0 with a 1.40 ERA and 20 strikeouts in his last three starts. Happ, meanwhile, was lit up in his last appearance, giving up seven earned runs on 10 hits in 5.2 innings of a 9-1 home loss to Detroit on July. 1. He is 6-3 with a 4.84 ERA in 10 home starts this season.

Hitting:

  • Kevin Pillar is 4-for-14 vs. Severino.
  • Brett Gardner is 9-for-33 with three doubles vs. Happ.

Writer’s Prediction:

New York wins, 6-2.

Game 3 Sunday, June 8, 1:07PM EST

Starters: Domingo Germán (2-4, 5.37 ERA) vs. Ryan Borucki (0-1, 2.77 ERA)

Pitching:

German failed to net a decision in his last start, as he surrendered three earned runs on six hits (two homers) in only 4.1 innings of an 8-5 victory over Atlanta at home on Jul. 3. German has not lasted more than five innings in each of his past two starts. As for Borucki, he has pitched admirably in his first two starts in the big leagues, allowing four earned runs on 12 hits with 11 strikeouts in 13.0 total innings, albeit both resulting in losses.

Hitting:

Toronto’s hitters with prior experience in facing German are 2-for-8 vs. the 25-year-old righty.

Writer’s Prediction:

New York wins, 5-3.
